EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J — After holding two-a-day practices for the past week, coach Avery Johnson is giving all of his players the day off on Tuesday. But before that, he will be bringing back eight players for a second session on Monday evening.

The common thread between Tyshawn Taylor, MarShon Brooks, Josh Childress, Mirza Teletovic, Andray Blatche, Dennis Scott, Tornike Shengelia and James Mays is that they're either young guys or guys trying to make the team. And they're the eight guys that will be participating in Monday's second session.

Here are the rest of Monday's training camp notes...

"These are guys that--possibly one of these preseason games if I decide to sit the starters--they're going to play a lot together," Johnson said. "Even though we are gonna condition, that's the least of the issues with these guys. They just need extra work. They need to learn about our system and terminology and they're just not quite there yet."

For the record, Taylor, Teletovic and Shengelia are rookies, Childress and Blatche are NBA veterans that appear to be locks to make the team, but are on non-guaranteed contracts, Scott and Mays were training camp invites and Brooks is beginning only his second season.

Taylor Sits Again

Taylor, a Hoboken native and a former star point guard at the University of Kansas, remained limited in practice with a strained right quad. Taylor has not gone full in practice since training camp began on Oct. 2

At this point, Taylor has been ruled out of Saturday's preseason opener against the Philadelphia 76ers in Atlantic City. However, the hope is to get Taylor going with full contact later this week with an eye on playing against the Celtics in the team's third preseason game in Hartford, Connecticut on October 16. That game is 24 hours after the Nets play their preseason home opener against the Washington Wizards.

"If we can get him in at the end of the week, I'm looking at that back-to-back game against Boston if he's ready to play," Johnson said. "The one thing we're trying to do is not make [the injury] anything long term."

Humphries Excused, Bogans Sits

Starting power forward Kris Humphries was excused from practice on Monday morning for personal reasons after his grandfather passed away. With Tuesday being an off-day, Johnson hopes to have Humphries back on Wednesday.

Reserve shooting guard Keith Bogans sat out the second half of practice with muscle soreness that Johnson said he has been experiencing of late.

Officially, Bogans is considered day-to-day.

One More Scrimmage

Johnson has not released details yet, but he said the team will conduct another full scrimmage on Thursday evening. This will be the second scrimmage after the group played an all-out, 5-on-5 this past Friday. They followed it up with a light practice on Saturday and another tough one on Sunday—when they practiced in Brooklyn at Barclays Center for the first time.
