Now Commenting On:

Deron Williams told reporters that the Nets were "too soft" in their Game 7 against the Bulls last season, according to SNY's Moke Hamilton.

At Media Day today, Williams said that the team's big offseason acquisitions should help a team that didn't come out ready to fight in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal loss at home to Chicago.

"KG, Paul [Pierce] & Jason [Terry] are three guys who have won championships," Williams said. "Just seeing their mentality, that'll be good for this group."

He also said:

  • His focus this season will be on elevating his play and his confidence to where it was prior to last season.
  • The Nets match up well against the Heat on paper.
  • Andrei Kirilenko is a big addition for the Nets'. "He's a guy that can fill up the stat sheet, on both ends of the floor."
Frankly, he's right. I think they were too soft the entire series. There was no reason why the Nets shouldn't have commanded that series against a banged up Bulls team. I still have a bad taste in my mouth about it.

However, having a trio of guys with championship experience should change all that. I doubt we'll see a KG-led team ever described as "soft," and I think that intensity will rub off on everyone. There's no substitute for experience, and I expect this revamped Nets roster will go a long way towards cultivating a culture of winning right away.
