The Least You Should Know:
[sny-box]Deron Williams had an outstanding game, with 30 points, seven assists, a career-high six steals, and five rebounds. It was his first career 20/5/5/5 game.
Paul Pierce, a 24-points-per-game career scorer against the Lakers, had a 14-point first quarter on 5-of-5 shooting, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
Pierce finished 25 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Andrei Kirilenko made his first start of the season and had a solid all-around game, with 10 points, 10 rebounds, a season-high four steals, and three assists.
Jason Collins made his season debut, coming off the bench to grab two rebounds and a steal, putting up a +8 plus/minus in 11 minutes of action.[/sny-box]
The Nets came out of the gate strong, taking a 63-47 lead into halftime on the strength of a pair of 30-point quarters. The 63 first-half points were tied for the second-most points they've scored in a first half this season. Although the Lakers managed to make a game of it late, Brooklyn was able to hold on for the win.
With Kevin Garnett (rest) and Shaun Livingston (tailbone) both out, Jason Kidd decided to give Kirilenko his first start of the season, and AK didn't disappoint. His hustle, basketball IQ, and all-around game have been a welcome sight all year.
The Nets had as many assists in the first quarter against the Lakers tonight (11) as they did all of last night against the Warriors. Williams had as many first-half assists (six) as the entire Lakers team had. Joe Johnson had a season-high eight himself.
After losing the assists and the rebounding battle last night, the Nets won both categories tonight, and they bounced back from a putrid 2-of-21 long-distance shooting night on Saturday to hit 12-of-25 from three-point range tonight.
The second game of back-to-backs had been a thorn in Brooklyn's side this season, and regardless of the quality of opponent, it was a nice road win for the Nets.
The Nets will be back in action on Wednesday night, as they continue their road trip with a visit to Portland to face the Trail Blazers. Tip off is scheduled for 10:00 pm ET.
