The Least You Should Know
[sny-box]It won't fully show up on the stat sheet, but Andrei Kirilenko often looked like the best player on the court for either team. Eight points, four assists, and three rebounds, along with great defense. AK47 was hustling up and down the court, getting to the line early and often, with a game-high 10 free throw attempts.
Joe Johnson shook off his recent shooting slump, scoring a game-high 23 points on 10-of-22 shooting, with four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Shaun Livingston had a nice, efficient game, scoring 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting, with five rebounds, three steals and an assist in 34 minutes.
Filling in for Deron Williams in the starting lineup, Alan Anderson played pretty well, scoring 14 points with five rebounds and an assist in 32 minutes.
Mirza Teletovic gave the Nets a great spark off the bench, scoring 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.[/sny-box]
The Nets led for most of the first half, only to go stone cold at the end of the second quarter, as the Hawks went on an 11-0 run to take a 52-46 lead into at halftime. However, the Nets jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the third quarter to jump back out in front, dominating that third quarter with solid all-around play.
Anderson and Teletovic scored nine points each in that third quarter, and the Nets held Atlanta to just 15 points in the period, taking a 72-67 lead into the fourth. The Hawks briefly took a 78-77 lead in the fourth, but Brooklyn quickly retook the lead and never looked back, as they played really strong defense to put the clamps on Atlanta.
It was a nice show of character for the Nets to extend their win streak to three games without Deron Williams, especially with Paul Pierce having a quiet night. The role players stepped up, and they beat a pretty good Hawks team, one of the few teams in the Eastern Conference with a winning record. Really nice win for Brooklyn.
The Nets have the day off tomorrow and will be back in action on Wednesday, when they hose the Golden State Warriors at the Barclays Center. Tip of is at 7:30 pm.
