Prokhorov also said he has been more patient with Jason Kidd than he was with Avery Johnson because "[Jason] has support of the players." He called Jason Kidd after a loss this season to encourage him and told him not to read the papers.
Other highlights from his meeting with the media:
- Prokhorov dismissed the idea that he is an "absentee owner," and -- according to both Rod Boone and Stefan Bondy -- seemed bothered by the criticism that he hasn't been around enough this season. He promised he'd be in Brooklyn more after the Winter Olympics. He said he checks the stats from every game and cited today's technology as a way to watch the team from anywhere.
- Prokhorov stood behind the job Billy King has done as general manager: "I think the team and I will do our best to make him GM of the year."
- He had an interesting comparison for Reggie Evans: "He is like a Soviet tank. Maybe not pretty, but it will crush you, you know?
