Nets G Spencer Dinwiddie didn't get an invite from Team USA to compete for their Olympic roster, so he'll bring his talents to a different national team.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Dinwiddie is getting a Nigerian passport to play for their national team. The Olympics have been pushed to 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
Dinwiddie saw a more prominent role with the Nets this season, starting 49 of his 64 games instead of serving as the primary sixth man for Brooklyn off the bench like he did last year. And in that span, he set new career-highs with 20.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.
But with the plethora of high-quality talent in the league, Dinwiddie's invitation for Team USA never came. So he'll be playing alongside NBA players like Al-Farouq Aminu, Josh Okogie, Chimezie Metu, and Gabe Vincent. The Nigerian national team is also led by Warriors coach Mike Brown.
Nigeria made it into the Olympics for its third straight games after defeating China in the classification round.
