Newly signed Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving suffered a facial fracture, the team announced on Wednesday. Irving is listed as day-to-day.
The injury occurred on the left side of his head and came about during a pickup game workout the day prior.
Irving took an accidental elbow which caused the injury.
The 27-year-old signed a four-year, $136.5 million deal with the Nets during free agency in July. Irving joined the Nets in an effort to team up with Kevin Durant, who also signed with the Nets during free agency. Durant is rehabbing an Achilles injury himself and is expected to miss the start of the Nets' season.
Irving has previously sustained injuries causing him to wear a face mask during games. The first occurred in 2012 and most recently occurred again in 2017.
