A day after the Brooklyn Nets announced Brook Lopez would miss Friday night's game at the Orlando Magic and Saturday night's game at the Miami Heat, the team's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Riley Williams III, has released a statement on the 7-foot center's condition.

"Brook suffered a twisting injury to his foot during the Boston game. He experienced some soreness afterwards, and was examined by the Nets training staff. Precautionary x-rays of his foot were negative. The area of Brook's previous fracture at the 5th metatarsal bone was unremarkable, and unchanged compared to prior films.  He reports tenderness over the top of foot. This area corresponds to ligaments that connect the tarsal or midfoot bones. He is diagnosed with a ligament sprain of the mid foot, and will be re-evaluated Monday upon his return to New York by Team Orthopedic Surgeon, Riley Williams and Nets Foot and Ankle Consultant, Dr. Martin O'Malley"

This statement doesn't really provide any new news, but it does clarify the fact that his injury is a ligament sprain to the mid-foot, not a mild ankle sprain as the Nets announced on Thursday.

The timetable remains the same for Lopez at this point as he will miss the Florida swing this weekend. His re-evaluation on Monday comes the day before the Nets host the Oklahoma City Thunder, the reigning Western Conference champions, on Tuesday at Barclays Center.

The name of the game here is going to be patience and caution. Lopez, who re-signed in the offseason for four years and nearly $61 million, now has a history of foot issues at the age of 24, so there will be no rushing Lopez back from this, especially this early in the season.

With Lopez out this weekend, reserve big man Andray Blatche is expected to get the start in his place.

Former Nets F Kenyon Martin thinks that Nets fans are 'getting cheated,' per Newsday's Neil Best.

Martin was one of the prominent former NBA stars featured during the opening night of the BIG3 three-on-three league at Barclays Center Sunday. He wasn't afraid to voice his opinions on the two New York teams saying both lack talent that the fans want to see.

"They appreciate good talent," Martin said, "and as of late the Knicks and Nets haven't had that. I'm saying both side, the talent level hasn't been there. So I think they're cheating the fans, man. I really do think the fans of Brooklyn and over the way [in Manhattan], man, they're getting cheated."

Nets guard Jeremy Lin will be available for tonight's game against the Suns, head coach Kenny Atkinson said.

Lin played just seven minutes before leaving Sunday's loss to the Mavericks with a sprained right ankle. The injury forced him to sit out Tuesday's win over the Pistons, the 44th game he has missed this season.

The 28-year-old has played in only 25 games, averaging 13.7 points and 4.9 assists.

The Nets look to win consecutive games for the first time in nearly a year as they host the Suns at Barclays Center on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

According to STATS:

  • The Nets are 7-2 (.778) against the Suns since moving to Brooklyn in 2012-13, their best record against an opponent during that time span.
  • The Suns dropped their fifth consecutive game after Tuesday's 112-97 road loss to the Heat. Phoenix has lost eight of its last nine road contests.
  • The Nets defeated the Pistons at the buzzer on Tuesday via a Brook Lopez jump shot for the team's fifth win in the month of March (5-7). Brooklyn had won just four games in the three previous months combined (4-37).

Brook Lopez made a jumper as time expired to give the Brooklyn Nets a 98-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.

The Pistons, fighting for a playoff spot, wiped out a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to tie it at 96 on Tobias Harris' follow shot with 2.4 seconds left.

Lopez then took the inbounds pass moving left, dribbled toward the baseline and shot the jumper as it appeared he might lose control of the ball, making the shot to cap a 29-point night. >> Read more...
