Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie underwent successful surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb, the team announced Monday.
The 25-year-old Dinwiddie, who is expected to miss 3-6 weeks, suffered the injury when he fell and landed on his right hand in Wednesday's win over the Orlando Magic.
Dr. Michelle Carlson performed the operation at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the team announced.
Nets head coach Kenny atkinson told the Associated Press that Dinwiddie, a candidate for Sixth Man of the Year, was in "good spirits" but did not offer an updated timeframe for a return.
The 6-foot-6 Dinwiddie, who signed a three-year, $34 million contract extension with Brooklyn in early December, has averaged 17.2 points and 5.0 assists in 49 games this season.
