Nets trade for Portland guard Allen Crabbe: After failing to sign him as a restricted free agent last offseason, the Nets have traded for Portland guard Allen Crabbe, sending forward Andrew Nicholson in return. Portland has traded Crabbe to clear cap space in hopes of getting a big-name player to join Damian Lillard and C.J McCollum. Crabbe, 25, is currently signed to a four year, $75 million contract. He shot a career-high 44.4 percent from three in 79 games last season. Full details here.
Yankees sweep Reds, show interest in Tigers reliever Justin Wilson: Starter Luis Severino tossed seven strong innings on Wednesday, leading the Yankees to a 9-5 victory and a series sweep of the visiting Reds. Clint Frazier had a big day offensively, driving in two runs and scoring one. Todd Frazier hit his first home run in pinstripes and Didi Gregorius smashed his 16th homer of the season. Matz's struggles persist in loss to the Padres: Steven Matz allowed six runs on nine hits in just three innings Wednesday night in a 6-3 loss to the Padres. Matz has lost three of his last four starts. Offensively, Wilmer Flores continued his power surge as he belted his 11th homer of the season, and Jose Reyes drove in two runs on a single and a bases-loaded walk. Jets claim Lucky Whitehead off waivers: The Jets have claimed former Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead off waivers after Dallas cut him when he was wrongly implicated in a shoplifting case.
