Now, SheridanHoops.com has him listed as being one of the most coveted free agents to hit the market this summer. Our very own Moke Hamilton authors the rankings, but let's reserve the accusations of bias until we hear the merits...
All of a sudden, New York City has become a place to keep an eye on. The reeling Knicks managed to salvage a win on their five-game road trip Monday night at Utah. But without Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Amar’e Stoudemire, the Brooklyn Nets are nipping at their heels. The Nets are suddenly 5-2 over their last seven, and it’s about time we showed some love to the team’s sixth man. They are, after all, trailing the Knicks by just a single game in the Atlantic Division.Moke ranks Blatche as the 11th best available free agent on the market this summer. It's hard to argue with Blatche's production, but this may actually be bad news for the Nets. If other teams around the league perceive Blatche as valuable, the Nets may have trouble re-signing him this summer.
The Nets have some of the league’s most overpaid players, but Blatche isn’t one of them. He’s been a consistent producer off the bench all season, giving them 10 points and 5 boards in 19 minutes. His 15-8-4 effort Monday against Detroit shows his potential; he’ll get paid.
Last week, Blatche reportedly said that he was not going to "chase the money," but the Nets already have a $90 million payroll for next season and do not have Bird rights for Blatche. I just don't know if they can keep him.
