The Giants announced their 2011 roster yesterday. It is full of great stories and perhaps great players, too. They have ten rookies on the team - mainly to bolster the speed of their special teams - and go into the 2011 season with a fresh approach and a better chance to compete for the NFC Playoffs than most prognosticators give them.

Mark Herzlich, a cancer survivor and an undrafted free agent, made the club. He is one of four rookie linebackers on the 53-man roster. Two late-round draft choices - Jacquian Williams and Greg Jones - and another UDFA (Spencer Paysinger) are the others.

?Herzlich didn?t bat an eye the whole camp," said head coach Tom Coughlin. "Physically, he did everything you asked and more. I saw him improve literally week by week. He can play multiple positions. He?s very smart. He does an outstanding job on special teams. He?s told one time and he goes and does it. He deserves it.?

The NFL has done a great job embracing new media, as the commissioner was tweeting throughout the Draft this weekend and many outlets such as ours used twitter to disseminate up to the second news.

Brian McCarthy who tweets at NFLprguy reports that a record 39 million viewers tuned into the 2009 draft. Total Draft viewership has increased 66 percent from 2001-2009 (from 23.5 million to 39 million).

Some of the MVPs of twitter this past weekend include our own Brian Bassett of theJetsBlog.com who got a hat tip from Brian for logging so many hours during the draft on twitter.
