The Giants wrapped up their veteran mandatory minicamp on Thursday. Here are some quotes of note from Thursday's media sessions...

"Very much excited. There?s some new energy, different blood. Some different speeds and so far they have gelled very well together." - DC Perry Fewell on having Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Walter Thurmond in the secondary.

"He?s exactly what I thought when we hired him. He?s a hard worker, he?s driven, his priorities are what they should be, he works long and hard at his trade. I think he?s a good communicator, I think what we?ve got in the other coaches that we brought in, Danny (Langsdorf), the idea of everyone working together, Craig (Johnson), I think that?s been accomplished. I think everybody?s on the same page with regard to that. We?ve just got to make some progress." - Tom Coughlin on first-year OC Ben McAdoo and the other new offensive coaches.

Day One of the Giants' 2014 mandatory minicamp is in the books. Here are some quotes of note from Tuesday's media session:

"I hope. He?s got to. That?s where he would fit as a receiver and he?s done a nice job in there when he?s been in the slot." - Head coach Tom Coughlin on special teamer Trindon Holliday contributing on offense as a slot receiver.

"It?s night and day, from the first meeting we had we had a lot of questions and were trying to understand some of the rules, when you can make changes even from the cadence, there were a lot of things going through and we were playing real slow because you?re thinking, the offensive line?s thinking, you?re trying to explain things to them on the run so there was a lot going on. I feel today we had a pretty good practice, we?re moving around fast and making some plays." - QB Eli Manning on if he feels more comfortable with the offense compared to the start of the offseason program in April.

The sun was out in full force today at TPC, with a mild breeze prevailing throughout the team's afternoon workout. The action was highlighted by two fights that took place in a matter of minutes during the last phase of 11-on-11s. The first between free-agent OL Bryant Browning and rookie DE Damontre Moore. The second featured UDFA WR Jeremy Horne and UDFA CB Charles James.

Head coach Tom Coughlin stopped the action and got everyone refocused with one brief, loud sentence that isn't suitable for public consumption.

"They got a little frisky? a couple of the young guys. There?s no place for that," Coughlin told reporters after practice.

Day 2 of Giants' minicamp and several players made themselves available for the media pool.

RB David Wilson has been working on his pass protection:

"I didn't have many opportunities last year, to show that capability due to my reps. That is definitely an area that I need to show the coaches I can handle. That's and area a running back in the NFL definitely needs to handle. I'm doing all the right things to take steps towards that and be ready for the season."

Day Two of minicamp on tap at TPC this afternoon. Fewer questions going into today's session, however.

What you need to know this morning....

*Hakeem Nicks reported to the facility yesterday. He said he was glad to be back and has mended fences with head coach Tom Coughlin. He would not divulge the reasons behind why he skipped OTAs. Instead, Nicks chose to focus on moving past the incident, stating he's healthy and ready to work - which he did.

Head coach Tom Coughlin addressed the media Tuesday afternoon following the Giants' first day of mandatory workouts.

On if anyone stood out on Day One of minicamp:

"No. We had good energy, though. It was good energy today. We?ve got the (inaudible) which sometimes you got to fight through it and you will in training camp. One group is a little bit ahead of the other group and you?ve got some errors that don?t allow the kind of execution you?d like to see on both sides, but there?s nothing unusual about that. It will be that way for a while in training camp also. I think there are certainly players that we want to get back in the fold and then we think that once we start camp with these guys we can start making some progress."

On Hakeem Nicks:
Q: Did you have a discussion with Hakeem today?A: I did. We talked. We?ll talk again.Q: Did you clear the air?A: That?s between he and I.

Day One of minicamp is in the books and it was good to see the majority of the roster out on the practice field. Practice began in the fieldhouse due to a rain shower, then was swiched back outside after the sun reappeared.

FB Henry Hynoski (knee) and DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back) were not in the building

C David Baas and G Chris Snee were present but did not participate in team drills. The offensive line was a mix and match affair for much of the day. James Brewer continues to see action at RG in place of Snee.

Some things to watch for today:

Expected to participate: Eli Manning, David Carr, Ryan Nassib, Curtis Painter

Overview: The Giants' short and long term plans at QB revolve around the 32 year-old Manning, their two-time Super Bowl MVP stalwart who has started 145 consecutive games since becoming the starter in 2004. The objective is to keep Eli healthy and upright. If they can't, and Manning is finally knocked out of the lineup, the Giants have made some moves during the offseason to safeguard themselves.

The team is bringing back veteran David Carr for what could be his final season in Blue. Carr has served as Eli's primary backup four of the past five seasons (he played for the 49ers in 2010) and has not started an NFL game since 2007 when he was with Carolina.

Expected to participate: Bear Pascoe, Brandon Myers, Adrien Robinson, Chase Clement, Larry Donnell, Jamie Childers

Overview: The Martellus Bennett experiment might still be going on had the Chicago Bears not stepped in and signed him to a four-year, $20.4 million deal in free agency. His departure, however, does not alter the Giants' TE plans at all. Bennett scored a TD in each of his first three games as a Giant in 2012, then fell practically silent the rest of the season. He and QB Eli Manning never really built the rapport the team expected, and although Bennett had his best season as a pro with them, they decided not to bid on him in free agency.

Instead, they turned their attention to Oakland's Brandon Myers and signed him to a confusing deal that could either lock him up for anywhere from one to four years. Myers had a prolific 2012 catching 79 passes, good enough for fourth highest among TEs in the NFL.

Expected to participate: Hakeem Nicks, Rueben Randle, Louis Murphy, Kris Adams, Ramses Barden, Keith Carlos, Brandon Collins, Kevin Hardy, Jeremy Horne, Jerrel Jernigan

Not expected to participate: Victor Cruz (unsigned)

Overview: The drama is building in the building right now. Will Cruz sign his tender and show? Or will he continue to exhaust all of his options as a free agent this summer? We will know the answer to that shortly. If Cruz does not sign his tender by June 17, or next Monday, he may end up playing for $630K if the Giants chose to reduce the tender amount, which they have the option to do.

Expected to participate: David Wilson, Andre Brown, Da'Rel Scott, Michael Cox, Ryan Torain

Not participating: FB Henry Hynoski

Overview: It's a brave new world in the Giants' backfield this season. Wilson will be the lead back, sharing carries with Brown, who finally got a chance to strut his stuff last season scoring 8 TDs and racking up 5.3 YPC before his year was cut short by a broken leg. Scott has been languishing on the depth chart, but he is still possesses that breakaway speed. He could get more touches this season. Rookie Michael Cox has shown good size and speed at OTAs and had garnered praise from the coaches. Torain is down the chart right now, but if he is your fifth RB, you're in pretty good shape.

Players expected to participate: David Diehl, Kevin Boothe, Will Beatty, James Brewer, Bryant Browning, Selvish Capers, Chris DeGeare, Jim Cordle, Stephen Goodin, Eric Herman, Michael Jasper, Matt McCants, Brandon Mosley, Justin Pugh Not expected to participate in team drills: Chris Snee (hip), David Baas (elbow)

Overview: The Giants have all of their key contributors from 2o12 returning with the exception of T Sean Locklear. The unit allowed the least amount of sacks in the league last season but that statistic is somewhat misleading. QB Eli Manning was under constant pressure and ended up avoiding sacks by using a quicker delivery, reading blitzes, checking down as well as throwing the ball away when in trouble. ?The run game was greatly improved from previous season. ?The Giants were seventh in the NFL averaging 4.6 YPC in 2012 as opposed to their league-worst 3.5 in 2011.

The team walked out of the draft room with two potential future starters in top pick Justin Pugh and seventh rounder Eric Herman. Both are still getting acclimated. No one will really know their capabilities until the pads are strapped on.

Daily report from TIMEX....

Bear Pascoe got a lot more reps with the 1's today than Martellus Bennett.? I watched Bennett run one route in 7 on 7's today.? Barely jogged.? It's not like we're in Day 20 of training camp in sweltering August heat and he's understandably taking a play off.? We're in Day 2 of a minicamp, it's 70 degrees with a calm breeze, and after Thursday, there are no practices until the end of July.? Totally unacceptable effort and body language.
