Bartolo Colon (7-3, 4.82 ERA) rebounded from back-to-back poor starts to defeat the Phillies and become the third pitcher in the big leagues to win seven games.

Colon allowed three runs?and?six hits, he walked two and struck out six batters.

?It?s really good to be in that position, after a meeting like yesterday, when T.C. tried to motivate and push everybody, it was important for me to (win),? Colon said through an interpreter (May 26, 2015). "Being pushed by the manager in a meeting like that is good for us. ... I feel like I need to be an example to the young guys.?

The Mets tried to sign first baseman Lucas Duda to a three-year extension plus a club option guaranteeing?just shy of $30 million. The deal would have taken up two free agent years (Heyman, May 1).

When a multiyear?contract?wasn't reached before opening day Duda and his representatives?decided to put contract discussions on hold to not become a distraction. The Mets inability to sign Duda this off season could prove to be costly as he is following his breakout season with a strong start to the year.

Jacob deGrom was knocked around last night in the Bronx for six runs in only five innings of work.?DeGroms' 18 1/3 scoreless-innings streak, and more importantly the teams 11-game winning streak, came to an end last night.

"It's disappointing, because we were on a nice roll," Terry Collins said after the game. "I know the Yankees have been playing very well, but we're surprised when Jake doesn't have his good stuff and tonight he didn't have it."

Jon Niese was ejected during the top of the fifth inning of last nights game for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout during Juan Lagares' at-bat. There was initial confusion as to who was ejected when home plate umpire Doug Eddings signaled towards the Mets bench until Niese could be seen heading back to the locker room.

"I thought that it was a ball, he called it a strike, and I told him, 'Make an adjustment,'" Niese said after the loss to the Yankees. "He said he didn't want to hear another word, and I said, 'Well, then make an adjustment.' And he tossed me."

Being one year older than the Mets and having grown up in Flushing, I find myself still stunned by the Mets' first no-hitter in their fifty-one year existence. Don't know why, but I never thought I'd see this happen. Buuuut....the Mets never cease to amaze, always providing their fans with something they've never seen before and this no-no could not have come at a better time in team history.

Congratulations to good guy Johan Santana and Met fans everywhere who have painfully suffered through a half-century of close calls. Our man Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog and the SNY team have great coverage of the historic event, so click on over.

I am one year older than the Mets and a bit older than my colleagues here at SNY who do an outstanding job covering the team.

Growing up in Flushing, I've been through it all with this franchise. The downs, (which have been more than a few) and the ups, which have been sweeter than any victory any Yankee fan can imagine because of their?uniqueness.

NEW YORK -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he won't initiate a bid to purchase a minority stake in the Mets, but he would consider it if they reached out.

"On the Mets, I'm not gonna chase it, I'm not gonna call out [to them]," Cuban said before his Mavericks beat the Knicks, 113-97, Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.

"If they want to contact me, if they have an interest and they think I'd be a good owner, I'd take their call and I'd be more than happy to discuss it. But I'm done chasing and bidding on baseball teams."

NEW YORK -- Even though they are both Russians involved in the high-profile world of the NBA, Timofey Mozgov and Mikhail Prokhorov have never met.

"I know he has money and he's really smart," Mozgov, who figures to start at center when the Knicks open the regular season Oct. 27 at Toronto, said of the Nets' billionaire owner before scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in the Knicks' 117-111 win over the Nets at Madison Square Garden.

Smart, but not smart enough to sign Mozgov to a contract?

It's opening day people, and possibly one of the best day s of the calendar year in terms of sports. Although the Yanks aren't playing today, it's baseball's opening day for the Mets and the rest of the league. As well as baseball getting off the schneid, we got T. Woods' press conference at 2:00 pm and the NCAA championship tonight.

Man...if only we could have a little football action too.

If your alive, breathing, and living in the tri-state area, you know the Mets and Yankees approaches this season are quite different. The Yankees have high expectations (deservedly so), and the Mets, for the first time in a while, are coming into the season with somewhat low aspirations.
