The New York Giants figure to have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL this season.?But if they can?t solve a problem that plagued them last season -- that of not only moving the ball into the red zone, but getting into the end zone -- they may not be able to score enough to be the NFC contenders they hope to be.
Kickoff: 7:00 Eastern <> TV: FOX (Ch 5 in NY) <> Radio: WCBS-FM 101.1
Weather: Cloudy, temps around 70, rain unlikely. Winds around 5mph.
Last Week: The Colts were blown out at home, 44-20, by the Buffalo Bills. The Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road, 18-13.
Series History: The Colts lead the series between the Giants, 8-6, entering Sunday?s game. The Giants are 0-2 against the Colts in the preseason. They last met in 1984 in Indianapolis when the Colts handed the Giants their only loss of the preseason, 26-20.
Coming off a victory in their preseason opener, the Giants will square off against the Colts at MetLife Stadium in Week 2. ?There were plenty of positives and negatives to take away from their Week 1 game against the Steelers, and New York will be looking to build upon them.
With their preseason home opener set for Sunday night, here are a few things to keep an eye on:
With 12 of the team's 90 players not dressing for tonight's game, the Giants will be able to get some longer looks at the bottom of their depth chart. ?I will be focusing on several areas and players that have piqued my interest since the spring..

On Saturday night, the Giants will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers (7:30 PM ET, 4NY). Winning is secondary in the preseason. What you want is for the team to stay healthy; you want to see some players emerge while solidifying the final roster. Then you want to get out of there and be ready for the regular season.
In New York, the Jets-Lions game will not be seen live by TWC customers. You can view/DVR the game via replay on SNY at 1:30am....
Among the 6 games on the schedule, the Falcons host the Bengals in a nationally televised game on ESPN. Once that game is finished, the NFL Network will plug into the San Diego broadcast of the Seahawks-Chargers game in progress.

The game had no bearing in the standings, so we can laugh about the comical ongoings we've seen thus far. But as the regular season nears, I fear we may be in for more moments like the one below.
Last night in the second quarter, the officials showed their ineptitude and inexperience during a punt play in which several penalties were called. Only problem was they had no idea what they were, which team they were on and the players who committed them. It took approximately five minutes for them to sort it all out.

The first string offense - which played into the second quarter - was sluggish, especially the running game. Eli Manning threw for only 29 yards on 4-for-8 passing. Rookie RB David Wilson had a mere 13 yards on eight carries.
WR Hakeem Nicks made his preseason debut and caught a six-yard pass over the middle from Eli and exited shortly after.
RB Andre Brown rushed for 52 yards and caught a swing pass from David Carr for another 9 yards on the drive. WR Ramses Barden had two receptions in traffic for 13 yards. He had another reception was negated by a penalty. Barden has four receptions on the night for a total of 31 yards with a long of 15.
The defense entered the game without seven starters: their top four DEs, LBs Michael Boley and Mathias Kiwanuka and CB Prince Amukamara.
The Patriots scored the only points of the half on a 20-yard FG by Stephen Gostkowski after a?12 play, 51 yard drive in early part of the second quarter. On third and goal, LB Mark Herzlich continued his strong preseason play stuffing Pats RB Brandon Bolden at the line and forcing the FG.
On 3rd and 5 from the Giants' 45, Eli Manning was sacked for a 14-yard loss by Pats' backup DT Jerome Cunningham who ?simply blew past G Mitch Petrus. He hasn't looked good this summer and that doesn't help his cause. Petrus started for Chris Snee who sat out with a sore leg.
On another third down deep in Giants' territory, WR Victor Cruz got behind the defense, but Eli under threw him. Seemed like a broken play to me.
Aug 27 - Clubs must reduce rosters to a maximum of 75 players on Active List prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time.
Aug 31 - Roster cut-down to maximum of 53 players on Active/Inactive List prior to 9:00 p.m., New York time. Clubs may dress minimum of 43 and maximum of 46 players for each regular season and postseason game.

I know many writers have said that LB is a focal point, but with Michael Boley (hamstring) and Jacquian Williams (hip) still out, it doesn't appear any decisions will be made soon. Keith Rivers will start for Boley at WLB, ?Chase Blackburn will start in the middle and Mathias Kiwanuka will line up at SAM. Mark Herzlich is being groomed to be the MLB of the future and he will see significant action tonight. The team also likes Spencer Paysinger at WLB, but Rivers apparently has leapfrogged over him on the depth chart.
Since everyone is putting their two cents in on what to focus on tonight, let me join the fray from the Giants side....

WRs Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and David Douglas (quad) were late scratches. Ramses Barden started in place of Hixon. Douglas, who many had hoped to see after creating a stir at camp, was spelled by the group of other WR hopefuls.
Rookie Rueben Randle had two receptions; a 21-yarder and a six-yard pass from Ryan Perrilloux in the end zone. UDFA Julian Talley had two receptions for 22 yards and Isaiah Stanback made the play of the night reeling in a David Carr pass with one hand in the right corner of the end zone.

The Giants, who stayed home last year for camp due to the lockout, will be once again making the trek up the turnpike to the University of Albany to train for the next three weeks. It will be the 16th time the Blue has held camp in the state capital, which is the most of any location.
?Albany has been an ideal summer home for our football team,? says Giants President John Mara. ?In addition to the great facilities, we have felt for 15 years that starting our season in Albany gives us the best chance to succeed each season.?
Giants' QB Eli Manning doesn't seem too concerned about not throwing a TD pass this preseason. He is approaching a critical year in his career, having thrown 25 INTs in 2010 - a trend that many thought could not continue in 2011. Last night, Manning was out of synch again with his young WR corps, overthrowing them on several occasions and forcing passes into tight spots. He threw two INTs in very 2010-like fashion (off his back foot while under pressure) that had fans shaking their heads and wondering. "Easy E" says no worries:
I?m fine. No one ever counts how many touchdown passes you?ve thrown in preseason. It?s one of those where you?re on limited scouting time and you?re out there running plays. We had some opportunities, there were some big plays out there - a fade to Mario [Manningham], a go-route to Mario that we missed on. We just have to get sharp on those things and the touchdowns will come.

The game between the Giants and the Jets, originally set for 7pm tomorrow has been moved up to 2pm. Giants' CEO John Mara said it was "the right thing to do". Can't argue with him there. Folks here were freaked out on Tuesday when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the Big Apple sending thousands into the streets. With the tenth anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks just two weeks away, New Yorkers were already on edge...
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he had not been keeping up with the news about the weather but had planned on catching up quickly. He also said the first team would at around "30-35" plays in tomorrow's game.

The Giants defeated the Chicago Bears 41-13 at NMS on Monday night. Tom Coughlin met the media afterward.
"Well we played better and we improved tonight. We had a lot of big plays in the game. I was glad to see so many guys make strong contributions. The blocked punt, the fourth down play by Cruz, with Hixon,?David Carr?played well tonight. Defensively, we did a good job pretty much all the way through against there ones. A lot of guys made strong contributions on special teams. I think, especially in the first half, we had a lot of big hits on kick-off coverage--Devin Thomas, naturally, as we saw, had some outstanding kick-returns. It was very well blocked. We?re very pleased with that part of it; very disappointed in the injuries that occurred. That?s the part of the game that just makes you shake your head. You extend the play time a little bit to take full advantage of the fact that we literally had no off-season and a very small preseason, very short preseason. So, we extended a little bit of play time tonight and we did have some guys that got nicked up. I don?t have a whole lot of information on that, but I do know that Terrell was an ACL."
Inactive for the game tonight: DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), DB Prince Amukamara (foot), K Larwence Tynes (quad), WR Darius Reynaud (hamstring), CB Brian Jackson (hip) and QB Sage Rosenfels (illness).
Some highlights from the first half: Brandon Jacobs' 19-yard TD run on an audible by Eli Manning. The Giants played to their strength there. The Manning pedigree making a snap decision at the line and utilizing the power of Jacobs vs the Bears' weak side.
The fan base is becoming restless with the lack of moves made this offseason. Couple that with the loss of key players from last years team and optimism is waning for Giants' fans. These preseason games are the perfect opportunity for the Giants' young players to prove themselves and showcase their talents.
Reese has put the fate of the team in the hands in these younger players and has been pitching the idea that they are as talented as anyone the organization has lost or could have obtained in free agency.
With?wins against the Panthers (17-12) and Redskins (23-3), the Ravens are 2-0 to start the preseason. The defense turned in an impressive performance a week ago against Washington, forcing four turnovers and knocking quarterback Donovan McNabb out of the game with an ankle injury. A lot is expected from Baltimore this year, but before fans get too excited about the quick start, keep in mind that the Ravens were 4-0 in the preseason last year, and went on to a?9-7 regular season record, a disappointment to some,?though they did beat the Patriots in the playoffs before losing to the Colts the following week.
The Ravens are one of NFL's best run organizations. Led by GM Ozzie Newsome and head coach John Harbaugh, the team drafts as well as anyone, and the organization is solid from top to bottom. The defense carried Baltimore?to a Super Bowl win in 2001. In 2010, the offense has the potential to be one of the league's best, while the defense was third best in the NFL in 2009.

Eli Manning's absence is huge, but the presence of Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will garner most of the headlines when the two teams meet tonight in the Giants' first home game at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Roethlisberger will take the field at some point (it's not known if he'll start), following a tumultuous offseason that led to a six-game suspension?(could be reduced to four games)?handed down by?NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Roethlisberger will begin serving his suspension at the beginning of the regular?season, though he is able to play in preseason games.
Now, on to tonight's game. The Steelers beat the Lions, 23-7, in their preseason opener last week. Byron Leftwich, who is expected to start Week 1 though head coach Mike Tomlin said this week that Dennis Dixon is competing for the job,?was 6-of-10 for 43 yards. Dixon then took over and was 6-of-7 for?128 yards and a touchdown.?Charlie Batch entered late and completed one pass for 10 yards.?There is speculation that Roethlisberger may start tonight given the rotation at practice the past couple of days.
