One of the biggest criticisms of the Ben McAdoo offense last year - besides his play-calling - was the fact that they used "11 personnel" (three receivers, one tight end, one running back) on more than 90 percent of their plays. It led to cries that the Giants were too predictable and not nearly imaginative enough.

Will Tye, the Giants starting tight end at the end of last season, will be returning for 2017 to at least compete for the job again.

Tye has re-signed with the Giants for one year and a salary of $615,000, NFL Players Association records show. He is one of three "exclusive rights" free agents re-signed by the Giants, joining the two whose deals were reported Tuesday -- tight end Matt LaCosse and defensive tackle Robert Thomas.

The Giants have declined to make the ERFA qualifying offer of a one-year, minimum-salary deal to two other ERFAs - receiver Ben Edwards (as reported by SNY on Tuesday) and fullback Nikita Whitlock.

Ralph Vacchiano, SNY:

The Giants could have somewhere near $40 million in salary cap space to play with this offseason if the cap rises all the way to $168 million, as some in the NFL project. They might even end up with more, depending on what contracts they restructure and which players they decide to cut.

And while that may not be enough to turn them into big spenders in free agency the way they were a year ago, it certainly is enough for them to re-sign some of their own unrestricted free agents. They have 17 UFAs to deal with, and several other free agents who are restricted. And a few of them could demand and command big money from someone -- particularly the two free agents on the Giants' defensive line.

MOONACHIE, N.J. (AP) Police are investigating racist graffiti scrawled on the walls of a New Jersey home belonging to a New York Giants player.

Police on Thursday were investigating the break-in at Nikita Whitlock's home as a hate crime, Moonachie police Sgt. Richard Behrens told The Record.

Whitlock, who's black, showed reporters the graffiti - "KKK," a swastika and other racial slurs - that was on multiple walls scattered throughout his family's home. The name "Trump" was also written on the wall in marker.

The New York Giants needed to come out in 2016 healthy and hearty, but instead may be poised for another season besieged by key injuries. It may be too soon to tell, but at this rate, they could be headed for another year at the top of the "adjusted games lost" column.

New York led the NFL in adjusted games lost, a metric to evaluate how teams were affected by injuries, for the third straight season in 2015, according to Football Outsiders.

Giants fullback Nikita Whitlock's season was already over. Now it's a good bet his Giants career is over too.

Whitlock was hit with a 10-game suspension by the NFL on Thursday for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. It's his second PED-related suspension, following the four-game ban he served back in 2014.

TE Larry Donnell, OL John Jerry, and rookie CB Matt Smalley all left practice early today with injuries.

Donnell, who was carted to the locker room after running wind sprints, was dehydrated, Ben McAdoo said after practice, while Jerry was forced to leave early due to an illness.

Smalley, an undrafted free agent from Lafayette, was helped off the field after trying to defend a pass to WR Darius Powe. McAdoo later told reporters Smalley was dealing with a shoulder issue.

The Giants had a historic offseason, signing big-ticket free agents and drafting six versatile and explosive players, three of whom may help their already powerful offense become more dynamic.

GM Jerry Reese came into the offseason with a long "to-do" list to try to rebuild the Giants' league-worst defense, and they added as many as six new starters through free agency and the draft.

But what about the offense? Here's a look at what's new and different this summer.

After rookie minicamp is in the books, the Giants are preparing to move into phase three of their offseason program and will begin organized team activities on May 27.

It will be the first time the rookies and the veterans will take the field as a team. The 10 OTA offseason workouts will be held on May 27-29, June 1-2, June 4, June 8-9 and June 11-12. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

Mandatory Minicamp will be held from June 16-18. Training camp begins the last week of July.
