Shero told NJ.com that they won't name a new captain until the proper leader emerges in the 2015-2016 batch of players, but stressed that doesn't indicate a lack of leadership on the team.

Savard, 61, has a combined 27-years of experience in the NHL as a coach,?scout and in management positions. In his most recent stop he spent eight years with the Pittsburgh Penguins as an assistant coach and pro scout. He had a 12-year playing career with the?Quebec Nordiques before retiring in 1985.

NHL free agency begins at noon on Wednesday, but Devils GM Ray Shero said the club might not make an immediate splash (June 30).

Shero, who wouldn't say which players the team is targeting, noted that any moves that are made will not be with just next season in mind.

The Devils have named Scott Clemmensen as their new goaltending development coach, the team announced Tuesday (June 30).

General manager Ray Shero said in a statement that he is excited to have an experienced goalie like Clemmensen on his coaching staff.

"Having played at every level, Scott is an excellent fit for our young goaltenders," Shero said. "We are fortunate to have someone with his experience join our staff. Additionally, he is familiar with our organization both on and off the ice."

With their 157th overall pick in the 5th round, the Devils drafted Merrimack College forward Brett Seney (Devils, 12:59 p.m.).

The left winger from Canada is the Devils last scheduled pick of the draft this year. At age 19, Seney is in his second year of draft eligibility as he was passed over last year.

The 156-pound Ontario native recorded 26 points with 11 goals and 15 assists in 34 games in his freshman campaign with Merrimack College last season.

The Devils picked defenseman Colton White with their 97th overall pick in the 4th round of the 2015 NHL draft (Devils, 11:57 a.m.).

The 6-foot Canadian defenseman posted six goals and 16 assists in 67 games for Sault Ste. Marie in 2014-15.

He comes from the same OHL team as the Devils' 67th overall pick, Blake Speers.

The Devils selected center Blake Speers with their 67th overall pick in the third round of the 2015 draft (Devils, 11:20 a.m.).

Speers finished his 2014-15 season with Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL with 24-43-67 in 57 games.

The forward from Ontario stands at 5-11, 181 pounds.

The Devils traded their 41st pick (second round) in this year's draft and their third round pick in 2016 to the ducks in exchange for 24-year-old winger Kyle Palmeri (Fire and Ice, June 27).

And Devils GM Ray Shero is hoping that Palmieri's age and speed will be a helpful addition to his squad.

?He's at the right age, No. 1,? Shero said. ?He's an NHL player. He plays with speed. He's a strong kid. He can really shoot the puck. It's hard to find players like that. Anaheim's got a lot of depth up front, especially on the right side and some other kids coming. So, we're, hopefully, taking advantage of that and, hopefully, it's going to be good for both teams ? The Devils selected goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood with their 42nd overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NHL entry draft (Devils, 10:46 a.m.).

Blackwood was the top-ranked North American goalie available.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, the 18-year-old went 33-14-2 for the Barrie Colts in the OHL during the 2014-15 season.

In the second round of the 2015 NHL entry draft, the Devils traded their 36th overall pick to the Ottawa Senators (Devils, 10:22 a.m.).

In return they'll pick up the 42nd overall pick and choose between the 109th pick in 2015 or the Senators' third round selections on 2016.

Ottawa drafted Gabriel Gagne with the 36th overall pick following the trade.

Kyle Palmieri is a New Jersey Devil, after a deal set in motion Friday night with the Anaheim Ducks was finalized Saturday morning (Devils, 9:13 a.m.)

The deal brings?Palmieri to New Jersey in exchange for the Devils 41st overall pick in this year's entry draft, as well as New Jersey's option of Florida or Minnesota's (acquired by Florida) third-round selection in the 2016 draft.

While the deal was announced Friday, it took some time to contact the right winger, which caused the hold up on making the transaction official (NJ.com, June 27).

Frolik, 27, has played the last two years in Winnipeg with the Jets and had 19 goals and 23 assists last season in 17:30 per game.

Frolik played last season on a one-year deal worth $3.3 million.
