The Orb-Oxbow showdown at the 145th Belmont Stakes was interrupted by a surprise visitor in the stretch on Saturday: Todd Pletcher's underachieving brown colt, Palace Malice.

With veteran hall of fame jockey Mike Smith up, Palace Malice was positioned perfectly at the top of the stretch for a run at the wire. At the quarter pole, Smith guided him past Oxbow, the Preakness winner, and never looked back. Palace Malice, who went off at 14-1, galloped to a 3 1/4 length victory. Oxbow held off a charging Orb, the Derby winner, for second.

It's Belmont Day here in NYC and Andrea has left town just in time. The track has a few hours to dry before post time. The big race won't go off until 6:36 pm, so you'll have plenty of time to handicap this one. If the track is still a bit soggy by then, it will only make the favored Orb, who won the Derby in the slop last month a more prohibitive favorite.

Fennelly's picks: Overanalyze, Orb, Unlimited Budget...?Longshot: Ingognito

GEICO SportsNite has reactions from hall of fame jockey Gary Stevens, who will be riding the Preakness winner, Oxbow, in today's Belmont Stakes.

As expected, the 2014 NFL Draft will be moved from it's traditional slot at the end of April to early May due a conflict at the venue (Radio City Music Hall). No further plans - including keeping the draft in New York City - have been revealed. The draft is a Thursday-Saturday event, as always, so you can get off the ledge - it won't interfere with Mother's Day.

From the league:

NFL teams were notified today that, due to a scheduling conflict at Radio City Music Hall, the 2014 NFL Draft will be held on May 8-10 in New York at Radio City.

As soon as the charity game in Atlantic City ended last week, rumors and hope of another one started to pop up.

Todd Fedoruk, who organized the game in AC, said that he liked the idea of trying to put on a game in Central Park.

Following the game in AC, Brad Richards told?Ranger Rants ?It?s fun for us to do this stuff. It?s a great feeling to get out there?(But) you need a lot of people behind the scenes. We?re always looking for ideas and opportunities but you need people behind the scenes. You?ve got to find these people to volunteer. Hopefully, we can do more. I?d love to.?

Well, you knew it was coming. War. Between the two of the biggest drinking towns in America. All they needed was a reason....

Foley?s NY Pub & Restaurant,(18 West 33rd St. across from the Empire State Building), New York?s premier sports bar, announced today that it is banning the sale of Sam Adams Boston Lager during the big game between the Giants and Patriots on February 5, 2012.

"In support of Big Blue, we will be banning the sale of Sam Adams and anything Boston-related during the game. We are encouraging them instead to order Brooklyn Ale, which is brewed here in New York," said Shaun Clancy, owner of Foley?s, who famously banned the singing of Danny Boy on St. Patrick's Day in 2008. "The New York vs. Boston trash talking has already begun, and we're supporting our home city."

The new CBA, unanimously ratified this past Monday by the players and owners, has resulted in a flurry of free agent signings and trades that have created an unprecedented onslaught of movement the NFL has never experienced. Across the board, general managers have been forced to part ways with veterans previously deemed inexposable, in an effort to shrink salary cap space and rapidly prepare their teams for the upcoming season via this shortened offseason.

For the Giants, locker room favorites Shaun O'Hara and Rich Seubert found themselves on the wrong end of this movement, as the Giants were forced to cut cap space in an effort to try and retain young talent while also evaluating the deep free agent pool created by the new labor agreement. (..more)

With the?lockout deadline less than 24 hours away, much of the public does not understand what will happen once the deadline passes.

The two sides will continue to negotiate, but a physical lockout of players may never come to pass. The two sides can agree to extend the current deal until a new one is reached and hammer out the differences behind the scenes.

That seems unlikely, but?Colts' owner?Jim Irsay (right) said yesterday that?the owners have yet to vote on whether to lock the players out on March 4th. That, along with the escalated negotiations, is a positive sign.

Former Giant WR and Ring of Honor inductee Amani Toomer ran the NYC Marathon in 4:13 yesterday.

"It was a lot tougher than I thought," Toomer said as he posed for pictures and fought through the throngs of other runners. "It feels a lot like the end of a football game actually."

Our colleague over at the Star Ledger, Zach Berman, featured former Giant great Amani Toomer in his column today. Toomer is running in the NYC Marathon this Sunday.

"...As the Giants' all-time leader in receiving yards, Amani Toomer became accustomed to short sprints. His muscles were developed for bursts of speed and running in and out of cuts.

On Sunday, Toomer will need to run differently than he did during any Sunday during his 13 seasons with the Giants. He will run the New York City Marathon -- 26.2 miles compared to 40 yards..."

Giants Football Blog is continuing its effort to expand our coverage to meet the needs of our readers.

This fall, in addition to being on the beat with the Giants, we are adding several features that we believe you will enjoy:

Rich Resch, a long-time contributor, will be writing a fantasy football column several days per week.  I, above all people, will enjoy this feature since I have been playing fantasy since the mid-'80's and am personally responsible for many of the elements you see in today's versions of the game.

GFB staff will participate in a radio program on Blog Talk Radio beginning Wednesday, Aug 18th.  The show - Pro Football NYC - is being produced by the good folks over at Football Reporters Online and will include several top Jets bloggers as well.  The combination of the fan bases and experts on both teams, with a few high=profile guests thrown in will make for an extremely interesting and entertaining show....

We will also begin to provide feedback and updates on video games (such as Madden 11), TV, radio and Media analysis and the best post-game analysis of any blog on the net.

I know you will enjoy these new features.
