Teams embarking on different paths meet Saturday at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus when the Crew SC hosts New York City FC.
The Crew (4-3-1) play the first of three consecutive matches at home, where it is 3-0-1 and has outscored the opposition 8-4 this season.
NYCFC (3-3-1) starts a stretch of five of six on the road. New York is 1-2-0 in away matches.
Columbus is coming off a 2-0 defeat at the New York Red Bulls last week.
"This group is resilient," Crew coach Gregg Berhalter said. "We've been talking a lot about how we deal with adversity, how we handle situations that don't go our way in games, how we can bounce back both within the game and then after the game."
Similar thoughts were expressed by NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira following a 2-1 home loss to Orlando City last week.
