A number of key players will be missing when Atlanta United FC visits New York City FC on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium in New York.
NYCFC (4-3-1) is two points ahead of Atlanta United (3-3-2) in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with 13 points.
New York is coming off a 3-2 victory over Columbus. Jack Harrison scored twice, including the go-ahead goal. Yangel Herrera had a goal and an assist in his first start since signing with NYCFC on loan from Manchester City.
NYCFC was without team captain David Villa, who was stricken by illness. Villa, who signed a one-year contract extension this week, has been deemed fit for action against Atlanta United. Ronald Matarrita and Khiry Shelton are still sidelined with injuries.
Herrera will stay with the team this weekend but will soon depart for the Under-20 World Cup. Following the win over Columbus, NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira addressed his decision to start Herrera instead of Andrea Pirlo, who has been a fixture in the NYCFC lineup since signing with the club in 2015.
