An Orlando City SC team that was victorious in six of its first seven MLS games in 2017 is trying to remember how to win.
The Lions (6-3-2) will host New York City FC (5-4-2) on Sunday at Orlando City Stadium. It is the third meeting between the teams in the season's first 12 games.
"It's been four games without a win and we're very hungry for the next one," Orlando coach Jason Kreis said on the team's website. "I think that's one of the nice things about getting out to a really good start, getting those wins under your belt, is that you get a real taste for it. When you go through games without (wins), you start to feel really hungry for it.
"(NYCFC) is a team we're obviously very familiar with now having played against them for the third time. We have a very good understanding of what they're about and what they're trying to do, and they have a very good understanding of us. At the end of the day it's going to come down to who wants it more.
Orlando City took the first two meetings.
"It's a challenge," midfielder Will Johnson said after the Lions' morning training session on Friday. "Every time you beat a team, it gets harder to do it again and again.
"This game will be harder than the first two matchups, so we're going to have to be perfect. They are a team coming off a bad result, so they will be motivated. They will be ready to go in a major way."
Orlando City and NYCFC are among five Eastern Conference teams separated by three points in the standings.
First-place Toronto is clear by six points.
"It's a tough one for us when you look at the results at the end, but when you analyze properly the performances we had against Orlando in the two games this season, I think we outplayed them in both games," NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira told NYCFC.com. >> Read more
