J.T. Barrett broke the school record for career touchdown passes with the third of his four TD tosses Saturday, No. 2 Ohio State's stifling defense forced Rutgers to punt on each of its 10 drives and the surging Buckeyes romped to a 58-0 victory.

Rutgers linebacker Greg Jones was taken to the hospital after sustaining an injury during the first quarter of Saturday's game at Ohio State.

Jones, who was injured while assisting a tackle early in the game, was carried off the field in a stretcher and taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons after lying on the field for nearly 10 minutes, reports Keith Sargeant of NJ.com

According to Sargeant, Jones "had movement" as he communicated with the team after the injury.

The fifth-year linebacker had 18 tackles coming into Saturday's contest.

When Urban Meyer looks across the field to the other sideline on Saturday afternoon in Ohio Stadium, he'll see several familiar faces.

When the Ohio State coach watches the Rutgers defense, he'll see almost a carbon copy of the schemes that his team runs.

"It's our defense. I mean like exactly," Meyer said. "They do a very good job and their defensive line is much improved and the guys are bigger and stronger and they also stole one of our strength coaches, Kenny Parker, and it looks like it. They're very strong."

After a mass exodus at Ohio State, Daniel Giddens remains "wide open," Oak Hill Academy coach Steve Smith told SNY.tv.

"He committed as a junior," Smith said of Giddens, one of three Ohio State players to ask for their release this week.

The 6-foot-10 Giddens, a Georgia native, averaged 3.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He initially chose Ohio State over over Kansas, Georgia, Arizona, Indiana and Florida.

NEW YORK -- Marc Loving knew that almost nobody in the college basketball world picked Ohio State to beat No. 4 Kentucky in the CBS Champions Classic at Barclays Center on Saturday.

And why should they?

Ohio State entered at 5-5 on the season and got whupped by 20 points at UConn just a week ago.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Geno Auriemma said on his radio show last week that the first to 100 points would win the University of Connecticut women's basketball team's regular season opener against Ohio State.

The Hall of Fame coach, as usual, was right. But the triple-figure performance offensively took second fiddle to the Huskies' defensive effort.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team has not dropped a season opener in 20 years, part of the reason it has not lost back-to-back games since March of 1993.

A year ago, the Huskies made their debut with a 46-game winning streak and after Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis buried 10 3-pointers on UC Davis it seemed like they had picked up where they had left off. But two days later they were beaten by Stanford in overtime and an emotional All-American Breanna Stewart stated they had to change to reach their goals.

That change didn't end after UConn won its final 37 games and its third straight national championship last April. The lessons learned continued into this preseason and the top-ranked Huskies plan to take those with them Monday when they visit No. 6 Ohio State at Value City Arena here.
