Kamari Murphy, a 6-foot-8 sophomore post player from Oklahoma State, has received his release from Oklahoma State, New York Lightning coach Dana Dingle told SNY.tv.

A Brooklyn native and former player at Lincoln High School and IMG Academy, Murphy averaged 6.1 points and 6.3 rebounds last season.

"He's just open right now, just seeing who's interested and all of that," Dingle said. "No one school in particular."

Jared Terrell has received a complete release from his Letter of Intent to Oklahoma State, Expressions Elite coach Tyron Boswell told SNY.tv Friday evening.

"He's weighing all options," Boswell said.

The 6-foot-3 shooting guard?of Brewster (N.H.) Academy picked Oklahoma State last September?over Rhode Island, Providence and Cincinnati. He is ranked No. 66 in the Class of 2014 by Rivals.com.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Jared Terrell wasn't feeling it a year ago when Brewster (N.H.) Academy lost in the National Prep Championship game to Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.).

"We was here last year and came down the same road and got to the finals and didn't cap it off," the 6-foot-3 Oklahoma State commit told SNY.tv after dropping 20 points in an 84-61 victory over NMH in the semifinals on Wednesday at Albertus Magnus College. "But I think we have a good enough team to finish it off this year."

A few hours after saying that, Brewster did indeed cap it off, knocking off St. Thomas More (Conn.) 88-77 to win the championship.

Marcus Smart's?draft stock is unlikely to be impacted much by Saturday night's incident in which Texas Tech booster Jeff Orr allegedly used the N word, but says he called Smart a "piece of crap."

Smart, who was suspended three games for the incident, could have been the No. 2 pick had he come out last season but opted to return for his sophomore season. Both DraftExpress.com and Chad Ford have him at No. 6.

Myles Turner is one of the last big-time uncommitted recruits in the Class of 2014 and he will take his next official visit this coming weekend to Oklahoma State, as previously reported by SNY.tv.

"I?m definitely excited to get down there to see the campus and see everything they have to offer," the 6-foot-11 big man from Trinity (TX) Euless wrote on his USA Today blog. "I?m looking forward to hanging out with Marcus Smart and Phil Forte. We?re all from the same area so we should have a good time hanging out.

Turner has also taken an official to Ohio State, but has not yet decided where else he will take officials. He is also considering Kansas, Arizona, Duke, Texas and SMU, among others.

Marcus Smart?gave Purdue a Thanksgiving Day present of 30 points.

Smart went for 24 points in the first half of No. 5 Oklahoma State's 97-87 win in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic and is now averaging 31.3 points in his last three games.

Markel Brown added 25 points for the Cowboys (6-0), who came in averaging 100.2 points and had defeated their first five opponents by an average of 37.8.

NEW YORK -- The Big 12 conference tournament is not played at Madison Square Garden, and that's a good thing for LeBryan Nash and his Oklahoma State teammates.

The Cowboys are 6-3 on the season, with all three losses coming in the World's Most Famous Arena -- to Stanford, Virginia Tech and then No. 15 Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Oklahoma State scored a double-dip Friday.

The Cowboys landed 6-foot-4 small forward Marcus Smart?(pictured) and 5-11 point guard Phil Forte, both from Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus.

"It was a very tough decision," Forte told Star Local Sports. "The whole process was pretty overwhelming and I'm excited to have made my decision, even though it hasn't really set it in yet. Having to tell all of the great coaches that were recruiting me that I'm going to be going to Oklahoma State was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life."

Oklahoma State suspended starting forward Darrell Williams on Monday after he was charged with four felony counts alleging he inappropriately touched two women without their consent.

Williams, a 21-year-old junior forward, made a brief court appearance after he was charged with one count of sexual battery and three counts of rape by instrumentation.

?It goes without saying that we take the charges very seriously,? coach Travis Ford said in a statement. ?Darrell will not travel or play while the legal issues are addressed.?

As reported here earlier this week, the 6-foot-9 Miller (pictured) is expected to pick Baylor after Louisville dropped out of his recruitment and he didn't take his visit to Duke last weekend.

Bello could join Miller at Baylor since the two are teammates at Westchester (N.C.) Country Day and have often spoken of playing together.

There is a lot of rumor and speculation out there about much-traveled power forward Karron Johnson, but his mentor, James Black, said the 6-foot-8 Johnson will sign with Oklahoma State this fall.

"He's definitely going to Oklahoma State," Black, pictured here with Johnson, said Monday by phone. "Karron's set to sign this November at Oklahoma State. He's going to do an early signing."

Johnson, 20, initially committed to Oklahoma State and then decommitted and was recruited by other schools, including West Virginia.

He has already visited Ole Miss unofficially.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Johnson out of Plainfield (N.J.) High School is the No. 13 point guard in the rising senior class, according to Rivals.

Maryland is the latest team to express interest in former Fordham point guard Jio Fontan, according to those close to the player.

Todd Washington, an advisor to Fontan, said the Maryland staff reached out about the 6-foot-1?Fontan, who received a conditional release from Fordham that prevents him from playing in the Atlantic 10 or the tri-state area.

Washington said the current list of schools involved with Fontan includes Miami, USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Maryland.

NEW YORK -- Former Fordham point guard Jio Fontan is here at Madison Square Garden watching his former St. Anthony teammate Travon Woodall play for Pittsburgh against Indiana in the Jimmy V Classic.

The 6-foot-1 Fordham just received his conditional release from Fordham and said he plans to visit Indiana this coming weekend and USC the following weekend.

Jio Fontan got a conditional release from Fordham Monday and has already heard from a handful schools.

I'm here at St. John's for the "Summer?in the City" event on the last day of the July recruiting period and some big name coaches are still working hard, including Kentucky's John Calipari, Tennessee's Bruce Pearl, Seton Hall's Bobby Gonzalez, St. John's Norm Roberts, Villanova's Jay Wright, St. Joe's Phil Martelli, Iona's Kevin Willard and Rider's Tommy Dempsey.

New York point guard Lamont "Momo" Jones spent the last couple of days visiting Florida and will land in Arizona Thursday night.

The 5-foot-11 Jones got his release from USC after Tim Floyd stepped down and will likely land at Arizona or Florida. Memphis is also interested but sources say he likely won't land there.

Vincent Council and Beas Hamga both missed their recruiting visits to Rutgers for last Wednesday's Pittsburgh game and are still deciding on their future destinations.

"He never made it to the Rutgers visit," Vincent Council Sr. said. "So they're going to reschedule another one."

The 6-foot-2 Council plays at The Patterson (NC) School, the No. 1 prep school in the National Prep Poll,?and is considering Providence, Rutgers, UCF and Arkansas. His father says he's leaning toward Providence and could announce soon.

A couple of tall African basketball players -- Beas Hamga and Ibrahima Thomas -- are back on the market.

Hamga, a 7-foot, 225-pound native of Cameroon, is considering transferring from UNLV to Ole Miss, South Carolina or Rutgers. He secured his release from UNLV.

"I know he's going to visit Ole Miss and South Carolina and he's looking at one more to visit and make up his mind," Mark Adams, Hamga's guardian, said by phone from Indiana. "He's going to visit a third school and there's a good chance it will be Rutgers." Adams said no date had been set on the Rutgers visit.

Oklahoma State commit Karron Johnson and former Wadleigh (NY) star Curtis Loving have been dismissed from Mount Zion (N.C.) Academy and will enroll at Laurinburg (N.C.) Prep, according to a source.

Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound power forward, recently chose Oklahoma State over UAB, Memphis and Seton Hall. Loving is a 6-5 small forward. We hope to have an update later on.

Speaking of Oklahoma State, Ibrahima Thomas, a 6-11 sophomore forward, was dismissed from the team Monday.

St. Benedict's Prep finished a perfect trip to the Marshall County HoopFest by beating Whitney Young of Chicago 69-55 Saturday night.

Texas-bound junior Tristan Thompson led the Gray Bees, No. 4 in the ESPN poll, with 22 points, Rice-bound guard Tamir Jackson added 16 points and sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo scored 12. Gilvydas Biruta added 12 points and 10 boards, and Pitt-bound forward Lamar Patterson added nine points.

That followed a Friday night game in which St. Ben's beat Jackson Provine of Miss. 72-56. Thompson had 18 and 12, Kabongo scored 12 points and Patterson 10.

**Patterson (N.C.) head coach Chris Chaney says point guard Vincent Council of New York has offers/interest from Providence, Rutgers Charlotte and Arkansas and is "leaning toward Providence." The 6-foot-2 Council is averaging 13 points and 10 assists for Patterson, ranked No. 3 in the National Prep Poll behind No. 1 Hargrave Military and No. 2 Brewster. Hargrave and Patterson will square off on Sunday in Maryland.

"[Council] has a very high basketball IQ," Chaney said. "He really knows how to play. He's a tough kid. He makes he right plays during the game. He's one of those guys you can count on. He's a quarterback who makes the right plays."

**Akol, who once played at Our Savior New American on Long Island, was cleared by the NCAA on Monday and practiced for the first time yesterday with Oklahoma State. The 6-foot-11 native of the Sudan had his initial SAT score contested by South Florida, but he took the test again and his new score was very similar to his previous one.

Akol averaged 21 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks while playing at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., last season.

Karron Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound power forward from Mount Zion Academy in North Carolina who has been compared to Kenyon Martin, committed to Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford on Wednesday night.

"It's true," said James Shange Black. Black and his wife are mentors who live with Johnson in Raleigh, N.C. "He just did it last night."

Johnson had developed a relationship with Oklahoma State assistant Butch Pierre when Pierre was at LSU and the relationship carried over. He committed after taking a visit to Oklahoma State last weekend.

The parade of college coaches continues to come through Jersey City to visit with St. Anthony senior guard Dominic Cheek.

Kansas head coach Bill Self and assistant Joe Dooley had an in-home visit on Monday night with the 6-foot-5 Cheek, his uncle, Omari Knight, and St. Anthony head coach Bob Hurley.

"It was good," Knight said by phone. "We had a lot of conversations about Dominic going to the school. Everything sounds good. We've got to still try to take a visit (to Kansas) to get the overall picture of the school. It looked good and they have (former St. Anthony standout) Tyshawn (Taylor) over there."

Kevin Parrom committed to Xavier Saturday, choosing that school over St. John's.

"I committed to Xavier today," the 6-foot-6, 195-pound Parrom, a senior shooting guard/small forward at South Kent (Conn.), said Saturday by phone from Xavier where he is on an official visit with Chris Braswell. "I like the coaching staff and the players. They're going to the (NCAA) tournament every year. They just win, that's what I like."

Asked what he could contribute to Sean Miller's club, Parrom said: "I think I can contribute energy to the team. I'm a scorer and I can bring more fire and versatility to the team."
