New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony won't play in Monday's road game against the Orlando Magic, the team announced.

The Knicks are playing back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

Anthony "wrenched" his knee while blocking a shot in Sunday's loss against the Golden State Warriors, head coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters prior to Monday's game. He scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 35 minutes against the Warriors.

He is averaging 23.2 points and six rebounds in 62 games for New York this season.

Effort was not the problem for the Orlando Magic in their 101-90 loss to the New York Knicks last Wednesday. Something else was off about the team.

With three days at home between their last game -- a stellar 18-point win over the Atlanta Hawks -- the Knicks seemed poised to build some positive momentum. Then the Knicks came and seemed to pull the rug from underneath them in a loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

What seemed like a turning point for the Knicks last week has instead become a blip on an otherwise difficult season. New York hopes a return to Orlando on Monday at the Amway Center can get the team back on the right track.

Kristaps Porzingis had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Derrick Rose added 19 points to help the New York Knicks cruise to a 101-90 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

Keith Schlosser, SNY.TV:

  • Though Carmelo Anthony struggled, this game was a productive one for many reasons. As the Knicks pushed the pace with a small ball lineup, Kristaps Porzingis looked like a triangle offense savant. The big man was moving well and pivoting towards the basket efficiently. He embraced being a true focus point. Porzingis also looked fatigued, which is to be expected following an injury absence. Still, he fought through it pretty well and Thursday's day off from game action should help. He was very active.

Orlando also fought back from being double digits down in its 136-130 double-overtime win against the Miami Heat on Tuesday.

The Orlando Magic are all but officially eliminated from playoff contention, but they're surely feeling good about Nikola Vucevic and Victor Oladipo potentially returning.

Matchups with the Brooklyn Nets usually help, too.

While the statuses of their top two scorers are unknown, the Magic attempt to sweep the season series from the Nets on Tuesday night.

GEICO SportsNite: Knicks 00:00:49
The Knicks defeated the Magic on Friday night, 108-95, behind 19 points and 11 rebounds from Carmelo Anthony.

Carmelo Anthony had 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and the New York Knicks quickly jumped on an Orlando team that appeared to still be staggered by Stephen Curry, beating the Magic 108-95 on Friday night.

A night after yielding 51 points and 10 3-pointers to Curry in a 130-114 loss to the Golden State Warriors, the Magic were barely in a game after the first 10 minutes that their coach said they needed to win.

Kristaps Porzingis added 18 points for the Knicks, who won for only the third time in 16 games. Jose CalderonRobin Lopez and Arron Afflalo all finished with 14.

Nikola Vucevic scored 18 for the Magic, and Aaron Gordon had 17 points and eight rebounds. >> Read more...

The New York Knicks host the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

According to STATS...

  • This will be the third and final game of the season between the Magic and Knicks. Orlando (2-0) will be looking to sweep the season series for the first time since 2009-10 (3-0).
  • The Magic have won their last two road games, tying their longest such win streak of the season. Orlando, which has averaged 120.5 points per game during this mini streak, has not won 3+ consecutive road contests since taking four in a row, January 8-16, 2012.
  • After using 36 different starting lineups in 2014-15 (2nd, NBA), the Knicks have had much more stability this season, going with just six different lineups, which is tied for the fewest by any team.
  • Aaron Gordon has pulled down 10+ rebounds in a game nine times so far this season; seven of those nine performances have come this month.
  • The Knicks have lost their last six home games, but little blame can be placed on Carmelo Anthony's shoulders, as he has four 15+ point/10+ rebound performances in his five contests during this skid (he sat out the February 5 home loss to Mem).
  • In the last meeting between these teams (December 21), Lance Thomas went 9-for-9 from the field (including 3-for-3 from behind the arc) and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. He is still the only player to be perfect from both the floor and the FT line in a game (minimum 9 FGA & 2 FTA) this season.

The Nets were dominated by the Magic on their home floor Monday night, and their veterans walked away disgusted with their effort.

"We put in a lot of work," Jarrett Jack said. "Too much work to come out with an effortless showing like that and be embarrassed."

The Nets trailed by only seven at the half, but were outscored by 16 in the third and fourth quarter combined. Orlando out-rebounded Brooklyn 43-39, and bested them in the paint 42-38.

The Orlando Magic attributed some woes to a long road trip and now head to a place where they have never won.

The Magic have dropped all six previous trips to Brooklyn as they get set for Monday night's matchup with a Nets team that has struggled to make 3-pointers all season.

Orlando (12-11) matched the second-worst loss in team history with a 111-76 home defeat to Cleveland on Friday. The Magic shot 38.9 percent in their lowest-scoring effort of the season.

The New York Knicks were rolling along before their worst offensive performance of the season led to the end of their longest winning streak in 19 months.

They had similar poor showings in two road matchups with the Orlando Magic last season, but the Knicks might be catching them at the right time Wednesday night.

New York (8-7) opened a four-game trip with wins over Oklahoma City and Houston to give it four straight victories overall for the first time since the end of the 2013-14 season.
