9:36PM: Vegas has confirmed that they have selected Oscar Lindberg from the Rangers.

On NBCSN, Pierre McGuire called Lindberg the Rangers most underappreciated player and said "he is so efficient, every time he is on the ice he makes a difference. He can win faceoffs, block shots, manufacture offense. He's comfortable with the puck on his stick. He's won before in Sweden, he won't be intimidated by the moment and he's a no maintenance player. He just shows up and competes every single day. The kind of player you need to have if you are going to win with an expansion team."

4:16PM: Larry Brooks, Darren Dreger and Frank Seravalli are all reporting that Oscar Lindberg is the player that Vegas has selected from the Rangers in the expansion draft.

  • On his goal, "I got a good play from Puempel in the neutral zone. I saw that I had some space and tried to get past the first D and got lucky and tried to get a quick shot between the stick."
  • Did you see the opening, "it was the only play. He had a good stick on me so I tried to drag it and get a quick shot."
  • On his level of confidence, "I think it's pretty good. The last few games I've been playing better hockey and just by doing that the confidence comes. It felt good."
  • On making it 2-0, "we knew they would come out hard in the last period. We got that first one and the second one and they came out hard in the last 10 minutes and it was an important goal for sure."

Alain Vigneault said that when he can roll four lines and get Jesper Fast and Oscar Lindberg out there regularly the line plays with "pretty good pace."

He said that Fast is "such a hard worker" and that Lindberg has been "playing better" lately.

He added, "they have been getting some offensive zone time and getting some looks. Sometimes the flow of the game, with special teams on either side, you lose that flow and they don't play as much as I would like to get them out there."

In 16 games in 2017, Fast has 1 goal, 2 assists and an average of 12:59 per game.

  • Will he stay at center, "I think that will be a game to game decision and with what is healthy and the opposition. Tomorrow he will play in the middle again but it will be a game to game decision.

The New York Rangers host the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

According to STATS:

  • The Bruins dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in Ottawa on Saturday night, taking at least one point for the ninth time in their last 10 road tilts (6-1-3 record). Boston is 12-3-3 (.750) away from home in 2015-16 -- second best in the league (Washington -- 16-4-2, .773).
  • The Rangers lost, 4-3, to the Capitals in overtime at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, dropping to 4-7-2 in their last 13 contests (since December 9). New York has netted at least three goals 26 times this season -- most of any Eastern Conference club.
  • Boston defeated New York, 4-3, in these clubs' first meeting of the season on November 27 at TD Garden. Dating to April 1, 2012, the B's are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games vs. the Blueshirts overall.
  • Patrice Bergeron had a helper in Saturday night's setback, giving him three goals and two assists in his last five skates overall. Bergeron has five points (3g, 2a) during his current four-game scoring streak vs. the Rangers.
  • Oscar Lindberg lit the lamp Saturday, giving him a goal and an assist in his last two skates since enduring an 11-game pointless drought from December 6-January 2. Lindberg has 11 markers on the season -- sixth most of any NHL rookie.
  • New York has gone without a power-play goal in a season-high five straight games (0-for-15 during span). Boston is 6-for-18 (33.3 percent) with the man-advantage in its last five contests.

Alain Vigneault spoke with reporters following Rangers practice today and said (NYR):

  • On Oscar Lindberg being scratched tomorrow, "I haven't decided on the lineup yet. I have not, we practiced on D today because I wanted Kreids to get full rotations and I picked Oscar to play defense. I haven't decided yet on the lineup for tomorrow. I want to watch Boston's game last night against Ottawa. I will do that this afternoon and then decide what our lineup will look like."
  • "There is no doubt that we are disappointed in the loss but there were some real positive signs in last night's game. It was hard fought by two teams that were battling real hard. Down by two against that team to be able to come back and get a lead, unfortunately there they made a good play on the tying goal and a great player won it for them in OT. We had two real good looks just before that. It's evident to anyone watching our team that we are taking positive steps in what we are doing defensively and offensively. That is what you need moving forward. You just gotta look at the standings to know that you gotta improve and get better and that is what we are doing a a team right now."
  • On the Bruins, "they are a team that has been playing real well lately, real well on the road so we know that we will have our hands full. I think our guys are ready for the challenge and we will get another chance to put it on the ice tomorrow."
  • On the carryover from the Stepan injury, "I think all teams right now, points are so hard to get, their focus and definitely our focus will be on what we need to do on the ice to have a good game. I think both teams will try and play real hard tomorrow."
  • Will Raanta be available tomorrow, "we will know tomorrow morning. He came in today with a sore back, Timmy came in and was outstanding, could have been the first star today. We won't use Timmy if we need him tomorrow even though he was real good, we will find out tomorrow. His back kind of tweaked up on him, I don't think it's serious and that he should be able to skate tomorrow and back up tomorrow night."
  • If not him does Hellberg come up, "I haven't talked to Jeff. I figured in talking to Rammer that Antti should be all right."
  • On Chris Kreider, "he looked good today, medical staff said that he is good to go. I just gotta figure out with him good to go what the lines are going to look like. Like I said, I want to watch Boston's game first and then decide."
  • On Oscar Lindberg, "I wanted four duos and I wanted four lines and I wanted Kreids to get some normal reps because he was cleared to play. I haven't decided what I will do with the lines yet. I kept the lines, except for Oscar, the same way as last night. I really want to watch Boston play back to back, see how they played last night and see what they did for lineup and then decide what we are going to do."
  • On Lindberg's game, "I think he is like the rest of our group, he scored a big goal last night at a key moment, playing better at both ends of the rink. He is like the rest of our group, he needs to get better and he is getting better."
  • On Kreider tomorrow, "he has to play to his strength. Anyone who has followed Chris Krieder and knows about the name and the player, you think about the speed, size and physicality that he can bring, puck protection and there is the type of player who needs to go into the tough areas to score goals and he is probably one of our best net front players that we have as far as screening the goalie and going into that area and causing trouble and we need to him to do that, when he plays to his strength he is a real effective player for us."
  • On Keith Yandle, "here we try and use him more for offensive zone faceoffs and if we are down by a goal, like last night, and we need a goal, he will get more ice time. On the left side we have Mac and Marc Staal as two pretty good shut down defensemen who can go against top lines. His role is different, minutes might be down a little but it's still important minutes and he does a good job for us."
