The Brooklyn Nets coaching situation will be a very hot topic come seasons end and the richest owner in the NBA, Mikhail Prokhorov, will surely be looking for a marquee name to lead his team.? The idea out there seems to be that if? interim coach P.J Carlesimo doesn't make a big run in this years playoffs it could end his reign as Nets coach after less than a season.

Carlesimo is 30-18 right now as interim coach which is nothing to sneeze at although Prokhorov will not accept mediocrity and wants a championship - soon.

From Marc Stein of ESPN.com

P.J. Carlesimo has been more successful since succeeding Avery Johnson than many expected, with a record of 29-18 as interim coach entering Friday's play, but the consistent word out of Brooklyn remains that the playoffs will determine whether he has any legit hope of landing the job full-time.

The Brooklyn Nets lone All-Star, Brook Lopez, has struggled since the mid-season showcase and his coach is one that has noticed it.? P.J. Carlesimo is taking a lot of flak about the "benching" of his All-Star center in the fourth quarter of the last few games.

Lopez seems to have an "all-star hangover", as per Carlesimo,? and needs to snap out of it quickly to help the Nets stay in the top four of the Eastern Conference standings.? The quiet giant has always been a total team player although this recent scenario is not something he has dealt with as a pro.

Is Carlesimo justified in his substitution patterns?

NEW YORK ? That Avery Johnson was fired was not much of a surprise; the timing of it was.

After essentially agreeing to inherit a roster full of marginal talent and biding time until the Nets moved to Brooklyn, Johnson was given 28 games to show what he could do with a roster that was admittedly better than it was in years past.
