1972- Denis and Mireille Brodeur welcomed a baby boy, Martin, into the world. That boy would grow into the Devils' -- and arguably the NHL's -- greatest goalie of all time.

Sykora was mentioned during training camp as someone the Devils might look at to help bolster their forward depth, although Lou Lamoriello threw cold water on the idea of the Devils signing any free agent. I find it hard to believe he didn't score an NHL offer after scoring 21 goals last season. My guewss is the money/offers in North America weren't enough to dissuade him from heading to Europe. With Sykora out of the picture and Jason Arnott reportedly too hurt to pass a physical, whatever free agent options the Devils might have considered at some point seem to be dwindling. No pressure, Matt Anderson.

Before tonight's match against the Dallas Stars the Devils honored one of the few players to have played on all three Devils Stanley Cup champion teams. Scott Niedermayer's number 27 joins Scott Stevens and Ken Daneyko in the rafters of the Prudential Center. It was a very classy ceremony for a classy player. Out of all the players that played in the NHL, Scott Niedermayer is the only player to ever win all 6 major hockey championships. The guy is a winner and congratulations Scott Niedermayer.

The 1st period started off very physical for captain Zach Parise.??I personally put myself in a vulnerable position when Ott hit me. So, I take that responsibility. That was my fault,? Parise said. But the physical Stars still could not stop the top line of Parise-Henrique-Kovalchuk. Everyone on that line would contribute at least a goal.
