Peyton Manning

The Super Bowl has landed right on top of the NY/NJ area, and even though we've been preparing for it for the past three years or so, it still promises to be an overwhelming event. Yesterday, the teams landed at Newark Liberty Airport right into the arms of the loving media. Here are some quotes that may interest you...

Broncos QB Peyton Manning on how much he has talked to brother Eli about playing in MetLife Stadium, and on playing the Seahawks:

?He told me he couldn?t help me much with Seattle. It wasn?t one of the Giants? better days. So he said to not ask him for a whole lot of help there. Eli and I have talked about playing in this stadium. I feel it was helpful to play in this stadium this season. It was the first time I had the chance to play in that stadium. So, it?s nice when you?ve played in it before, at least you kind of know the surroundings a little bit. Eli has been always helpful to me for many reasons. I?ve talked to him a number of times these past couple of weeks, and he is excited for me. I?ve always appreciated his help and support.?

With Peyton Manning and his Broncos in town next week to face the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, the opportunity for Manning to etch his name on the top of the pantheon of NFL quarterbacks is within reach.

It will give him two Super Bowl championships to go along with all of the great regular-season accomplishments on his resume. With a victory, Peyton will, in many's eyes, become the greatest QB in the history of the NFL.

He will also become the first QB to win the Super Bowl with two different teams. But on a personal level, a win next Sunday will move him into a tie with brother Eli for Super Bowl rings with two, and...if Peyton wins the MVP, he will tie Eli in that category as well (with two).

As the deep freeze continues here and across the country, the NFL is getting nervous about the weather for next week's Super Bowl. Although they feel confident they can handle anything thrown their way, the cold weather here in the NYC Metro Area - and around the country - ?is reaching historic proportions.

In the world of the Giants, they are preparing to host the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks next week at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. QB Eli Manning is more concerned with assisting brother Peyton, who with the rest of the Denver Broncos will be out at the Jets' facility in Florham Park.

?I?m rooting for him,? Manning said on a conference call yesterday, per the Giants. ?It?s not like watching any other football game. If I?m watching two other teams, I?m kind of casually watching and don?t really care who wins or loses. Here, it?s a little bit more nerve-wracking. I don?t get nervous playing football games, I get nervous watching my brother play.?

So here we go. Seattle vs Denver in the Super Bowl. Okay, we can deal with that. Two teams we know very little about in person, but both have played games at MetLife this season, so there's that.

In Week 2, Denver came in for the latest edition of the Manning Bowl and took advantage of the leaky Giants, 41-23. The Seahawks whitewashed the overmatched Giants here in Week 15, 23-0.

The Super Bowl will feature a Manning brother for the fifth time in eight years. This is Peyton's third trip. Eli has gone twice. They are 3-1 in Super Bowls.

The Giants defense made sure that Peyton Manning did not have another record setting week through the air and for much of the game, a victory was within reach. One thing the Giants could not do, was figure out the balancing act by the Denver Broncos offense.

During the much anticipated Manning Bowl III,?we saw the elder brother, Peyton, run his no-huddle offense to near perfection not only with the passing attack, but also on the ground. Peyton finished with 307 yards with two touchdowns, while Broncos' RB Knowshon Moreno carried the ball 13 times for 93 yards and reached the end zone twice.

More importantly, the Giants defensive line could not force any pressure on Manning and finished the game without a single sack. DE's Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul were basically invisible on the field and behind Manning's quick offensive approach, the Giants defense was confused, leaving receivers wide open at times.?Too much time and too many options?allowed Manning to pick apart?Big Blue's defense.

The Giants take on the Denver Broncos Sunday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. in the ?Battle of the Manning Brothers.? Peyton is 2-0 in his career against younger brother Eli.

This game will mark the first time in NFL history that the opposing starting quarterbacks will have each thrown for at least 400 yards in the previous week. Peyton threw for 462 yards and an NFL-record tying seven touchdowns, while Eli tallied 450 yards and four touchdowns but threw three interceptions.

After last weekend?s performance in Dallas, not much more could go wrong for the Giants. But offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride hopes the team can improve on the mistakes that cost them an opening-week loss.

The problem is that this week, Eli Manning will be going up against his older brother Peyton, who is fresh off a game in which he threw seven touchdown passes.

However, that is for the defense to worry about. The Giants? offense has plenty more to be concerned with than Peyton Manning?s performance.

Future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning is returning from a year off rehabbing from neck surgery. The decision by the Indianapolis Colts to part ways with him in favor of No.1 pick Andrew Luck set off a chain reaction across the league. Teams came out of their skins to find a way to sign him.

The team that won out was the Denver Broncos, currently presided over by none other than John Elway, one of the game's greatest QBs. Elway swayed Peyton to shun such warm weather and indoor destinations (such as Miami and Arizona) for the mile-high life. But if you're Peyton Manning, why in the world would you make that choice after playing in a controlled environment for the past 14 years?

I'm sure you are all pleased that the Peyton Manning Sweepstakes are finally over. It would have been nice for the folks in Tennessee to have him back, but Denver is where he wants to be, and we'll gladly take that. We didn't need him in San Francisco...

We know John Elway had a lot to do with convincing Peyton to chose Denver, which is one of America's great cities, but it just seems odd to us that he would want to play out his career in the elements when he has always been considered a "dome" quarterback.

The Broncos play in the outdoors - many times in extreme weather and always in thinning air - and their three division opponents are all outdoor/grass teams as well.

Peyton Manning (or, as he's known in these parts as Eli's older brother) will decide where he is going to play this year on either Monday or Tuesday. The three finalists are Denver, Tennessee and San Francisco.

Manning worked out for the Niners and Broncos this week and will do so for the Titans today. The Broncos appear to be the best fit for him, even if it means displacing the iconic Tim Tebow. ?Broncos EVP John Elway has a close relationship with Peyton and has been publicly non-committal towards Tebow.

Tennessee is driving hard to the hoop on Peyton, but they have Matt Hasselbeck already under contract. He's not a backup. Not yet, anyway. They'd have to either trade or release him. Manning has ties to the state of Tennessee having starred at UT in the 1990's. Owner Bud Adams wants Manning bad and is apparently offering Peyton a lifetime contract.

The Giants have been in the NFL spotlight since last December, capturing the imagination of football fan everywhere with an incredible Super Bowl championship run. Players such as Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul and Hakeem Nicks have become household names practically overnight.

The leader of the Giants - QB Eli Manning - has been one of the constants for the Giants - and the NFL -over the past five years, a span in which the club has won two Super Bowls with Eli being named MVP in both games. Many NFL teams are seeing that you can't win the Super Bowl unless you have an elite QB under center.

The past decade has proven that. The league's upper crust of the QBs (Eli, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Eli's brother, Peyton) have all led their teams to Super Bowl titles at least once.

Manning, if healthy, will give an aimless team a turnkey solution to all of their offensive problems. Currently, their are at least six teams interested in offering him a deal.

With the Albany conundrum put to rest, the whole Giants organization can take a deep breath. The move just wasn't doable this year.

Logistically, it made no sense. There is too much housekeeping to do down here. Uprooting an entire organization 150 miles north at the drop of a hat was just too tall a task. Especially if your organization is, well, disorganized.

Good news for the Giants as they prepare for the Titans?

The brothers huddled in a stadium tunnel, hands tucked into their pockets, heads bowed as if in prayer. As equipment bags were shuttled back and forth behind them, Peyton and Eli Manning stole one last moment after a blowout game that brought joy to neither of them. Long Eli's protector and sometimes his tormentor, Peyton steered the conversation away from his Colts' 38--14 battering of Eli's Giants and instead brought up New York's Week 3 opponent, the Titans. The Colts play Tennessee twice a year, and Peyton's knowledge of the Titans' defensive schemes is vast. After doing everything in his power to beat Eli, Peyton was already eager to help him. Satisfied that his little brother was of sound body and mind, Peyton hugged him, slapped him on the backside and scheduled a fraternal chalk talk. Eli's eyes came to life. "I'll call you Tuesday," Eli said. (Sports Illustrated, 9/27)
The Giants are hoping that?that phone call included plenty of talk about how to beat Tennessee.

In this week's Sports Illustrated, former Giants' running back Tiki Barber commented on playing in the NFL?against a sibling. The story focused on Eli and Peyton Manning, but Barber knows a thing or two about playing a sibling. Tiki and his brother, Ronde, have combined to play for 24 seasons of pro football. The Giants and Buccaneers met five times while Tiki and Ronde were on the rosters. Barber can relate to what the Mannings went through for the second time in their careers Sunday night.

"Eli and Peyton are both intense, more so than Ronde and I," Tiki says. "They don't let their family situation distract them from what they have to do. It's literally all X's and O's for them. The intensity has to do with the fact that they're brothers but more to do with the fact they are insanely focused on winning. If that means kicking your brother's butt, they will do it.

"It's a mixture of emotions," Tiki says of facing a sibling. "Your instincts say, I should be rooting for him."
