Jeanie Buss may be looking to make major changes within the Lakers organization as soon as next year, but there's no guarantee Phil Jackson is coming back to Los Angeles.

"It really isn't about trying to get him back here (to the Lakers)," Buss, Jackson's 54-year-old fiancee, told USA Today. "He is happy with what he is doing, and he … is up for the (Knicks) challenge, and he's seeing the results of the work that he's put in. But he has a ways to go."

In 2014, Jackson, now 70, signed a five-year deal worth a reported $12 million annually, but there has been increased speculation that he will leave New York -- possibly for the Lakers -- before its completion after the 2018-19 season. A source told SNY.tv that his opt out comes after next season.

Phil Jackson's opt-out clause with the Knicks doesn't kick in until after the 2016-17 season and the Zenmaster "doesn't have one foot out the door," a person close to Jackson told SNY.tv.

"He's totally committed, that's the type of person he is," the person said. "He's totally committed to the Knicks until he's not with the Knicks anymore. He doesn't have one foot out the door or anyting like that. He bought a multi-million dollar apartment in New York, he didn't rent it."

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Phil Jackson won't return to the sidelines to try to resuscitate the Knicks, and is looking for a coach with whom he has a solid "relationship."

In the long term, that coach could turn out to be interim head coach Kurt Rambis, Brian Shaw, Luke Walton, Tom Thibodeau or someone else altogether.

Asked if he considered returning to coaching after firing Derek Fisher on Monday, the 70-year-old Jackson said, "Not one second. But the instinct is still there but it's not in my physical capabilities to do that."

Jackson was in attendance for the Ohio St-Nebraska game last Thursday night and told Cleveland.com that Russell was a "great looking kid" and a "great prospect."

With the Knicks struggling under rookie head coach Derek Fisher, will Phil Jackson seek out recently fired Brian Shaw to join their?staff? (Berman, March 4)

Shaw was fired Tuesday night after serving as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets for less than two seasons. He led the Nuggets to a 36-46 record last season and 20-39 this year.

It was believed that Jackson preferred Shaw over Fisher in his pursuit for a head coach last off season. But Denver was unwilling to let Shaw walk at the time.

As Phil Jackson prepares to put his own stamp on the Knicks and build from the ground up this coming summer, he and the rest of the team's brass will use the rest of this season to evaluate and examine which?of New York's current players may be worth holding onto.

Of course, Carmelo Anthony, Tim Hardaway Jr., Pablo Prigioni, and Jose Calderon are among those currently under contract for next season. Langston Galloway is owed a partial guarantee. Other options include Lance Thomas and Travis Wear.

In Wear's case, the forward turned heads following Summer League and training camp, impressing just enough, not only to sneak onto the opening night roster, but also earn his full guaranteed salary after managing to stick around past January.

In the Warriors' defeat of the Knicks on Saturday night, the charge to victory was not entirely led by Stephen Curry. It wasn't led by fellow 2015 NBA All-Star Klay Thompson, either. Instead, it was none other than Draymond Green who stood as the staring attraction en route to victory.

Whereas Curry scored 22 points and hit a couple of daggers towards the end to put the Knicks away for good, Green proved to be the more efficient player throughout. Adding 20 points, he shot 8 of 12 from the field and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds. This went along with two blocks and three assists.

Such a versatile performance has been par for the course all season long for Green, who was widely considered to be an All-Star candidate if the Western Conference leading Warriors were awarded a third one, a la the Eastern Conference leading Atlanta Hawks. The forward is averaging 11.4 points (on 43% from the field and 34% from deep), 8.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks through 49 contests. Needless to say, he's a true stat-sheet stuffer, and can hurt opposing teams in a number of different ways.

Phil Jackson won't have far to go to work when the Knicks begin the season. The first-year team president has reportedly purchased a 2,600-square-foot co-op at the Osborne, a brownstone on West 57th Street, for $4.85 million (Los Angeles Times, Aug. 14).

The apartment -- 11 minutes by subway from Madison Square Garden -- has a wood-paneled library, fireplaces clad in limestone, a dining room, a gallery, a living room, an updated kitchen, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master suite has a large closet and a bath with dual sinks.

Jackson, of course, is no stranger to the city. He played for the Knicks in the 1970s, when he was known for an eclectic lifestyle. Jackson, who won 11 NBA titles as a coach with the Bulls and Lakers, signed a 5-year, $60 million contract when he became the Knicks president in March.

P.J. Carlesimo is off to a 3-1 start as interim head coach of the Nets, including an improbable win against the NBA?s top team in the Oklahoma City Thunder. He'll look to make it 4-1 tonight when the Nets visit the Washington Wizards.

For Carlesimo, the win might have been a bit sweeter, since he was the first coach in the Thunder?s history. However, his tenure lasted only 13 games as he was fired after a 1-12 start.

RUMOR OF THE WEEK: If the New York Knicks don?t advance beyond the first round of the playoffs, I?m hearing they?ll make a major ? repeat, major ? push to lure legendary coach Phil Jackson out of retirement.

With money being no object, the scuttlebutt is the Knicks brass may offer the ?Zen Master? a four-year, $50 million deal. Thanks Gery Woelfel

A well-connected league source told me yesterday that Phil Jackson has "definite interest" in the Knicks coaching job, but that it's "too late in the season" for him to consider coaching this year.

There is also word that Jackson is preparing to have surgery.

I've been asked countless times why would Jackson come to New York and put his legacy on the line and deal with owner Jim Dolan. I can't say that that he will because I don't know but there is league-wide chatter that Jackson has his sites on finishing his career in New York where he started as a player.

With the idea of Allan Houston possibly taking the reigns it is easy to speculate something we here have said all along.

Are the Knicks using their apparent front office vacancy to lure Phil Jackson out of retirement?

I say hell yes.

Of course there are those who are convinced that Phil is done, but I'm not buying it. He's coveted this job his entire career and if the Knicks show they can be a top 4 eastern conference team that has a chance to win the Conference, you can bet Jackson will jump at the chance to win the first since his idol Red, and allow that to be his final chapter. That sort of situation has his coaching DNA written all over it.
