Week 16 was the complete microcosm of my season of picking. Let?s look at the games one-by-one.

I went with the Saints on the road over the Panthers, and until the last drive, I was sitting pretty. But of course, Cam Newton hits former Giant Domenik Hixon for a touchdown, which allows Carolina to cover the spread.

Then I take a gamble and bet against the Seahawks at home with the Cardinals. I was really just expecting the Cards to cover the 10.5-point spread, and not only did they do that, but they wound up winning the game. Go figure.

I finished 2-2 last week to remain still a paltry 10 games under .500

I won with the Colts and Bengals. The Patriots won but did not cover, and I was a Giants? touchdown away from covering the over on total points from that game.

I can?t seem to shake the 2-2 week, but at least it?s better than 1-3 or 0-4

The Colts mounted a late comeback and the Chiefs took care of the Bills for my two wins. The Seahawks relied on a late comeback and therefore did not cover, and the Ravens were a complete disappointment against the Browns.

All it will take is a few good weeks in a row to get right back to the .500 mark ? or even better. I have to say though, it?s been very difficult to pick games this season, as there have been plenty of surprises.

The Chiefs and Bears came up short for me last week, but I earned wins with the Giants and Packers.

I wouldn't expect the Devils to forfeit the first rounder this year -- not unless they absolutely hate the first round talent. You'd have to think they at least want to make a first-round pick in the draft they're hosting.

Counting down Jerry Reese's eleven best draft picks/ undrafted free agents

Victor Cruz: Undrafted, 2010

Has there ever been a more pleasant surprise in New York Giants history than Victor Cruz? 2011 season? If seventh round picks are the NFL draft?s equivalent of lottery tickets, Jerry Reese?s acquisition of the salsa-dancing phenomenon as an undrafted free agent was like winning the lottery without even buying a ticket.

Ahmad Bradshaw: Round Seven (Pick 250)

Seventh round picks are the NFL draft equivalent of lottery tickets. They are longshots to contribute, if they even survive final cuts. But every now and then, a seventh round pick makes an impact, bringing many to question why he was not taken earlier in the draft. Case and point: Ahmad Bradshaw.

Hakeem Nicks: First Round (Pick 29), 2009

The 2009 draft had one of the deepest, most talented classes of first round wide receivers of all time.? Aside from Hakeem Nicks, this group included Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin, Darius Heyward-Bey, Michael Crabtree and Kenny Britt.? All but Britt were chosen ahead of Nicks.? It has only been three years since then, and while each of these young receivers have experienced some level of success, if this draft were done today, Nicks likely wouldn?t make it out of the top ten.

Henry Hynoski: Undrafted, 2011

It took all of my strength to quiet the voice inside my head that said I couldn?t rank a fullback this high.?Don't tell me what to do, brain! Instead, I went with my gut and doled out this top-five ranking to a player who was quietly a key piece in the Giants? championship offense.? I?ll admit that this ranking is extremely aggressive, but it?s based on the fact that I strongly believe Hynoski will be a huge factor in turning the Giants? running game around and allowing the Giants? offense to become the football equivalent of a well balanced breakfast. ?Anyway, what fun is a top ten (or eleven) list without any controversy?

Many draft experts considered Hynoski to be the best fullback in the draft, and no one would have batted an eye if he were a taken in the fourth round.? Seven teams drafted fullbacks, yet for whatever reason, Hynoski was passed over by every one of them. ?We here at Giants Football Blog agreed that Hynoski would be a perfect fit for the Giants, and Jerry Reese was happy to scoop him up as an undrafted free agent. ?Whether Reese was able to read the market on fullbacks, or if he just lucked into this steal is impossible to determine.? Either way, the Giants found a young cornerstone for their running game.

Mario Manningham: Round Three (Pick 95), 2008

Manningham?s story is unlike most of the players you'll find on this type of list; he wasn?t an unknown commodity and he didn't come from a small school. On the contrary, he was a well-known and popular player from one of the biggest football schools in the country. ?"Super Mario" decided to forgo his senior season at Michigan, but still managed to rank in the top ten in terms of receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in school history.? He was considered by most to be a first round prospect.

Kevin Boss: Fifth Round (Pick 153), 2007

When Jeremy Shockey was carted off the field with a broken leg, many fans figured that any chances the Giants had of competing in 2007 went with him.? But Kevin Boss, an unproven fifth rounder from Western Oregon, stepped in and immediately did?well, not much.? But with a touchdown in each of the last two games of the regular season, Boss showed glimpses of a player who could replace a pro bowl tight end without much drop off.? It wasn?t until Super Bowl 42 that Boss made what will almost certainly go down as the play of his career.? Late in the third quarter, Boss caught a 19-yard pass from Eli Manning, eluded Rodney Harrison, and rumbled for a momentum swinging 45-yard reception. It was the play of the game, until some other stuff happened.

The year before Steve Smith suffered a season-ending and career-threatening knee injury, the USC product put up one of the greatest receiving seasons in New York Giants history.? Jacquian Williams: 6th Round (Pick 202) , 2011

The general consensus on Williams is that he was a sixth or seventh round pick, so this is the first player that can?t be considered great value. He is another name to throw into the picture at linebacker, though, which I consider the greatest need.

When it was announced that Terrell Thomas would miss the entire season with a torn ACL, I basically wrote the Giants off. About twenty four hours later, I talked myself back into believing that Big Blue had a chance (turns out I was right!), but the fact is that Thomas had become such an important player that his injury was arguably the biggest hurdle the Giants had to overcome this season.

Jake Ballard: Undrafted, 2010

The big tight end caught 34 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns during his career at Ohio State. In his one full season with the New York Giants, Ballard bettered these numbers with 38 receptions for 604 yards and four touchdowns. It?s hard to imagine that anyone saw this little used college tight end turning in starting caliber numbers. This includes Jerry Reese, considering how many times Ballard was waived and re-signed. To his credit, he was the only GM that took a chance on signing him after the draft, and any other team could have claimed Ballard the handful of times the Giants waived him.
