EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Even by Odell Beckham Jr.'s standards, this was a spectacular play: a leaping, one-handed, almost-backhanded catch at the 5-yard line, followed by enough body control to hang on, switch hands and scamper untouched into the end zone. There was a gasp from the crowd, followed by the loudest cheers of the day.

There was only one problem: about 35 yards behind him, the play had already blown up.

GEICO SportsNite: Giants lose 00:01:35
Ben McAdoo, Odell Beckham, and Eli Manning comment on the team's lack of offensive production following a 24-14 loss to the Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- At the start of what Ben McAdoo called "real football," he better hope he didn't just see the real Giants' offense.

But unfortunately for him, 12 games into the season, it sure looks like that what it is.

It remains the biggest mystery of the Giants' season, and at this point very likely the key to their demise: What has happened to what was once, and was supposed to be again a top-10 offense? The Giants gained an embarrassing 234 total yards in Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- It takes a lot to wipe the smile off of Victor Cruz's face, but the Giants finally found a way by ignoring him Sunday.

The Giants' former star receiver didn't have a single pass thrown to him during the Giants' 24-14 loss to the Steelers. Eli Manning threw 39 passes in the game to seven different targets, including 25 to three other receivers. But nothing went toward Cruz, despite the offensive struggles.

Asked if that was frustrating, Cruz said, "Take a guess."

GEICO SportsNite: Mcadoo on refs 00:00:42
Giants head coach Ben Mcadoo discusses his thoughts on the referees in the Giants' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- Odell Beckham Jr. has had it with the officiating crew that he believes mishandled the Giants' 24-14 loss to the Steelers on Sunday -- the same crew he dealt with in his last two games against his nemesis, Josh Norman. He implied their rocky history has tilted the playing field against him.

And he believes they should be banned from officiating any Giants games again.

"It's not like I'm sitting here saying the refs are the reason we lost the game, but there's plenty of (bad) calls in the game and anybody can go watch the film. Anybody," Beckham said. "Anybody can go watch the film and see exactly what was going on. I don't know. I don't really think that we should have this crew any more when the Giants are playing with the past history and everything that's gone on."

The Pittsburgh Steelers ended the New York Giants' winning streak with a familiar formula.

Ben Roethlisberger passed for 289 yards and two touchdowns, Le'Veon Bell rolled up 182 yards of total offense, and Pittsburgh's resurgent defense harassed Eli Manning into a flurry of mistakes in a dominant 24-14 win on Sunday.

Antonio Brown edged good buddy Odell Beckham Jr. in their personal showdown, catching six passes for 54 yards and an acrobatic scoring grab at the back of the end zone. Tight end Ladarius Green added six receptions for 110 yards, both career highs, and a touchdown as the Steelers (7-5) won their third straight to keep pace with Baltimore atop the AFC North.

Manning completed just 24 of 39 passes for 195 yards with two touchdowns and two picks in the red zone for the Giants (8-4), whose six-game run ended with a thud. Beckham was largely a non-factor despite a game-high 10 receptions for 100 yards.

The New York Giants are getting some help on beating Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers by learning from Eli Manning's champion brother Peyton.

Peyton, a two-time Super Bowl champion who retired after the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 in February, visited the Giants' facility on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan

Eli is facing the Steelers for the fourth time in his career, the first since 2012. Eli is 1-2 in those games, while Peyton, including the playoffs, went 4-1 in his career against the Roethlisberger-led Steelers, including a win in last year's AFC Divisional Game. Peyton threw for 1,250 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception in those matchups.

"He gave some insight," Eli said to Raanan. "Just some stuff that was successful; he's played Pittsburgh a lot over the years. Played 'em last year in the playoffs. So just had a few tips or ideas that may fit into our system."

Vacchiano, Coakley on Jets' loss 00:03:04
Ralph Vacchiano and Jeane Coakley discuss Todd Bowles' game management in the Jets 31-13 loss to the Steelers.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

PITTSBURGH -- Todd Bowles was right about one thing: The blame falls on him.

He wasn't solely responsible for the Jets' 31-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, of course, and no double-digit loss can be pinned on one bad decision or two. But the Jets head coach, who built up so much optimism with a 10-win season in his rookie year, is the one responsible for this current 1-4 mess. He has a mistake-prone team and a bunch of cranky players crying out for leadership.

During the season, Bent's Game Analysis charts games for some of the Jets' upcoming opponents, enabling a breakdown of what to watch out for on gameday…

2014 began similarly to this year for the Jets, with a murderer's row of top teams in the first half of the season. That was the last time these teams met and the Jets shocked the Steelers with a 20-13 win to break an eight-game losing streak.

Despite being competitive most weeks, the season had spiralled out of control -- much like this one seems destined to. With Geno Smith benched, the Jets took a 17-0 lead as Mike Vick threw two touchdown passes, including a long one to TJ Graham. Unlikely hero Jaiquawn Jarrett forced three turnovers to help the Jets hang on. That was too little too late, but a similar upset would perhaps get this Jets season back on track.

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and wide receiver Eric Decker sat out practice Wednesday with injuries, and they're both uncertain for New York's game at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Revis is dealing with a hamstring issue that caused him to miss most of the fourth quarter of the Jets' 27-17 loss to Seattle last Sunday. New York faces the possibility of facing Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers' strong passing game without the leader of its secondary.

Decker remains week-to-week with a partially torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. He was originally injured at Buffalo in Week 2, but the shoulder worsened at Kansas City and Decker sat out the game against Seattle.

New York Jets WR Eric Decker said he is still undecided if he will play Sunday vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers even though his shoulder is feeling better this week, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Decker, who missed Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks with a partially torn rotator cuff, said his shoulder feels "better this week than last week," according to Cimini.

The Jets considered placing Decker on injured reserve, but instead are calling him "week-to-week." He did not rule out the possibility of getting surgery at season's end.

After Sunday's games, the Jets were tied with Kansas City and Pittsburgh - all at 9-5 - but the Jets were on the outside looking in in the race for the AFC's two wild-card spots because of tiebreakers.

"Right now, we just focus on stacking these wins up," linebacker Calvin Pace said. "We have to win out. There are some scenarios where if some other people win out, they will go. You just have to focus on what we can control. We got this win on the road, a tough one. We have to get two more."

Next up for the Jets is a home game against New England, which edged New York 30-23 in October. They'll close out the regular season at Buffalo, where Rex Ryan will certainly be licking his chops at the possibility of dealing his former team's playoff hopes a key blow.

Once again, it's hard to concentrate on football with all that's going (and not going) on around here. This is not the venue to vent, however. Emotions are high and the Giants thrive on adversity, as we all know. I would be shocked (shocked, I say) if they came out flat today and got outhustled. Not making any predictions, because predicting Giant games the past few years is a pretty much a crapshoot.

Today, the Giants host the Steelers in a game that could make or break Pittsburgh's season. It also could put the Giants in the driver's seat in the NFC East.

The Giants are 6-2 and sitting atop the NFC East, 2 1/2 games ahead of the 3-4 Eagles and Cowboys and 3 games in front of Washington. ?With a W, the Blue maintains that lead at the least. That's provided the other teams all win, which is unlikely. The Redskins are hosting the struggling Panthers, so they have the best shot at a win this week. Dallas is in Atlanta to face the undefeated Falcons and the Eagles will be in New Orleans tomorrow night, where the Saints have a clear advantage. Can't see the NFC East going 4-0 this week.

Two storied NFL franchises will meet in Week 9 when the Steelers visit the Giants. Pittsburgh has won two games in a row while the defending Super Bowl champion Giants are seeking their fifth consecutive victory.

Pittsburgh looks for its second consecutive win over an NFC East foe after knocking off Washington last week 27-12. Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 107 yards in his second career NFL start and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger passed for three touchdowns. In his career, Roethlisberger is now 14-0 in starts against a rookie quarterback, a list that includes his opponent this week, Eli Manning.

?It?s fun having so many options and being able to throw to anybody,? says Roethlisberger, who completed 24 passes to nine different players.

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't become a pillar of strength in the NFL by being flashy. They aren't exactly frugal, either. The operative word for them is practical. ?They needed to free up some cap room in order to retain some key players who are poised for free agency. They have been doing that slowly the past weeks, and today they finally got the cap relief they needed when they re-did QB Ben Roethlisberger's contract.

From Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Ben Roethlisberger became the fifth Steelers player to restructure his deal, and this one may bring the team even with the NFL's salary cap.

Roethlisberger, without giving up any money, reworked his deal for salary cap accounting purposes and cleared about $8 million in team cap room, according to his agent Ryan Tollner.?Since the Steelers were estimated to be about $8 million over the projected $120 million per-team salary cap, it should bring them close to even. The Giants are in swimming in the same surf as the Steelers. They have quite a number free agents themselves that need to be re-signed and are about $9 million over the cap.

America has been spoiled. The past three Super Bowls have each provided an enthralling football contest. The games were not decided until the final minutes (or in two cases the final minute), they were classic bouts worthy of permanent enshrinement in the archives of football history.

Because of this trio, it may be easy to forget that all too often; the best post-season action is served up during the Conference Championship round. 1998, for example, saw the Broncos edge out a valiant Jets effort as the Falcons upset the favored Vikings in a thriller. The Super Bowl that these two games spawned was far from memorable.

from former NFL journeyman-turned-columnist Ross Tucker of the ESPN.com...

Unlike the majority of current and former NFL players -- not to mention Steelers owner Dan Rooney, evidently -- I don't have a huge issue with the concept of the NFL's enhanced 18-game season, provided certain concessions are made. I'll detail those below. That holds especially true if it is, in fact, the key component necessary for the NFLPA and NFL to come to terms on a new labor agreement, though I have some concerns long term if that is really the deal clincher. I know, I know -- easy for the retired guy to say that we should add two more games every season. I get that. But I truly believe that I would feel this way even if I were still an active player. Here are the stipulations that would have to be a part of any enhanced season proposal in order for me to sign off on it
