The major hype right now surrounding the Brooklyn Nets is their search for a new coach.

P.J. Carlesimo did an admirable job on an interim basis, but assuming he didn?t lead the Nets to the Eastern Conference finals, his fate was pretty much sealed long before his firing.

Owner Mikhail Prokhorov and general manager Billy King want to bring in their own guy, and that search is ongoing.

NEW YORK ? Joe Johnson was red hot from the field to start Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

If he kept up his pace from the first quarter, the Chicago Bulls may have been in store for a similar drubbing that they suffered in Game 1 of the series.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the Nets play the Washington Wizards on the team?s final homestand of the season.

With the Nets locked in as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, this game is relatively meaningless.

But the Nets must be sure to at least play some sort of competitive basketball to tune up for the playoffs.

New York ? The Nets are in Boston and are set to battle the Celtics in what will be the club's 78th game of the season.

It?s hard to believe, but after tonight, only four games remain in the Nets inaugural campaign in Brooklyn.

The club now sits comfortably in the fourth seed in the conference after the Chicago Bulls lost to the Toronto Raptors last night. The Nets are now three games ahead of the Bulls for the fourth seed. The Bulls, though, only lead the Atlanta Hawks by 1/2 game, so while the Nets are comfortably in the fourth seed, there is still uncertainty as to who they will square off against in the first round of this year's playoffs.

NEW YORK ? In the NBA, it?s all about getting hot at the right time.

And Deron Williams right now is hot. In fact, he?s scorching hot.

Williams added to his recent hot stretch in Saturday night?s win over the Bobcats, pouring in a game-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting. For the second straight game, he tallied 20 points in the second half alone.

New York ? With how well Deron Williams has played recently, just imagine how dangerous the Brooklyn Nets can be if Joe Johnson returns to full strength.

Saturday night?s win over the Bobcats was his second back after missing five with a sore heel and bruised quad.

He said after the game he?s feeling all right but that there are a few things that he still feels limited in doing on the court.

NEW YORK ? With the worst team in the NBA coming to town, the Brooklyn Nets were hoping that Saturday night?s game against the Charlotte Bobcats would be over early, especially with a tough stretch of three games in four days looming.

But despite the 105-96 victory, it wasn?t as easy as initially expected. The Bobcats showed up to play even though their season has been over for a while.

It seemed as though P.J. Carlesimo and the Nets? players were slightly frustrated with the overall effort ? especially defensively ? but will take the win on their home court.

Deron Williams had another strong game last night in the Brooklyn Nets 108-98 victory?over the New Orleans Hornets.??Williams turned in 21 points and 13 assists and it came on the heels of a great 27-point, 13-assist game that the Nets lost on Monday night at the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Nets have won four of their last five games and much of the success is due to a rejuvenated Williams, who has seemed to turn a corner over the past few weeks.

It certainly has been an interesting beginning to the Nets? tenure in Brooklyn.

A roaring start was followed by a terrible stretch resulting in the firing of Avery Johnson. P.J. Carlesimo looked like he was the savior of the franchise, but an inconsistent stretch recently has brought the team back down to earth at the break.

After C.J. Watson?s one-point performance in Monday?s win over the Pacers, he was bound to have a better game Wednesday night against the Nuggets.

Watson not only had a better game, but he also turned in his best performance of the year with a season-high 25 points and six assists.

The realm of sports is classic for descriptive nicknames that highlight an athlete?s prowess.

Cal Ripken Jr., who played in a record 2,632 consecutive baseball games, was aptly nicknamed ?The Iron Man.?

NEW YORK ? If one were told that the Nets would get a win without Deron Williams scoring in the fourth quarter and with Brook Lopez not playing a single minute in it, it would be difficult to believe.

But surprisingly enough, that was the case in Brooklyn?s 93-89 victory on Friday night over the Chicago Bulls.

Even right after defeating the Orlando Magic Monday night, the Nets were already looking forward to their matchup with the top-seed in the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat.

The Heat have won the previous two matchups against the Nets, but Deron Williams said things have changed since that time.

Since the last time these teams met, the Orlando Magic are a completely different team, and really it?s on account of one player: Jameer Nelson.

Nelson missed all three games that the two teams have played this season ? all Nets victories.

NEW YORK ? Before the Knicks and Nets did battle for the fourth time on Monday, I had the opportunity to catch up with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

I asked Mr. Smith his thoughts on the Brooklyn Nets as they approach the midpoint of the season.

P.J. Carlesimo is doing his best to make it hard for the Brooklyn Nets management to keep looking for someone to replace him. The Nets continue to win under the direction of Carlesimo and have run off a 9-1 streak to start his coaching career with them.? The team has responded to his coaching style and looks to be more focused and it shows on the court.

The question that some are beginning to ask is whether the Nets should remove the interim tag for Carlesimo and just officially announce that he will coach for the remainder of the season?at least.

Deron Williams made some news a few days ago when he told ESPN New York that he didn't think he was an All-Star and that other point guards in the conference were playing better than him. As true as that may be, should the Nets recent hot streak and Williams improved play make a difference?

We tend to think so, how about you?

Brooklyn Nets interim coach PJ Carlesimo sat down for an interview with Steve Serby of the NY Post and the two went back and forth on Carlesimo's past, present and future. He was of course asked about the "Sprewell incident" as well as his college career, Olympic experience and NBA stops. You can tell by the interview that his parents had a very big influence on his life and coaching.

Carlesimo has done everything right since he took the job with the Nets and if this success continues he will surely get the interim tag taken off sooner rather than later.

NEW YORK ? The Nets went back to the future by signing Damion Jones to a 10-day contract. After being selected in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft, James?selected by the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Nets?spent two years with the club before his third year rookie option was declined.

James began this NBA season as a member of the NBDL's Bakersfield Jam. He averaged 15.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game. Having seemingly proven himself on the NBA's smaller stage, the Nets opted to sign James to a 10-day contract and give him the 15th and final roster spot that was opened up when the club waived Josh Childress back on Dec. 29.

It's been fifteen years since the infamous "Latrell Sprewell incident" occurred and changed Brooklyn's interim coach P.J. Carlesimo's coaching career.? Carlesimo has made a few stops since the incident transpired ?and also won a few rings with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach.

But being an NBA head coach is a special position and Carlesimo is trying to put the Golden Sate incident behind him once and for all.

P.J. Carlesimo is off to a 3-1 start as interim head coach of the Nets, including an improbable win against the NBA?s top team in the Oklahoma City Thunder. He'll look to make it 4-1 tonight when the Nets visit the Washington Wizards.

For Carlesimo, the win might have been a bit sweeter, since he was the first coach in the Thunder?s history. However, his tenure lasted only 13 games as he was fired after a 1-12 start.
