(CNN)?-- James Gandolfini, best known for his role as an anxiety-ridden mob boss on HBO's "The Sopranos," died in Italy, possibly of a heart attack, the actor's managers said Wednesday. He was 51.

Bill Murray was at the Big Apple Invitational in New York Monday.

Gotta love this picture of the former "Ghostbusters," "Stripes" and "Meatballs" star -- and co-star of the upcoming "Moonrise Kingdom" -- sitting with his son Luke Murray, an assistant at Towson.

And in the front row, our guys Brock Erickson of Monroe (N.Y.) College and Darren Savino of Cincinnati.

When WFAN first came on the air in New York in 1987, Ed Burns and his best friend, both huge sports fans, couldn't comprehend that Mike Francesa, Chris Russo and their colleagues were getting money for their "jobs."

"We could not believe that you could get paid to BS about sports on the radio all night long," Burns, a hardcore Knicks fan, said in a recent phone interview.

And I even had my wife's full blessing.

I began the day by joining Fox's Duke Castiglione on "Good Day New York" to preview the Knicks and Nets and talk a little NBA.

True story.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I were in the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Prince Street in New York and this iconic Frank Stefanko photo of a young Bruce Springsteen was going for $1,500 or $2,000 a pop. I can't remember which.

Avid rock fans and supporters of the Morrison Gallery, we own several iconic photos of Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Only in American could a man get rich off a song about the attempted rape of his sister.

Huntsville, Ala., native Antoine Dodson became a YouTube sensation when Auto-Tune the News took his rant about the attempted rape of his sister, Kelly Dodson, and transformed it into an R&B masterpiece.

According to Techland.com, "the song reached the top 50 on the iTunes music charts, was redone by Mario Paint and members of Paramore and New Found Glory and Relient K came up with a punk version. The entire North Carolina A&T State University marching band performed it on the football field. NPR did a story on the societal implications behind the fact a song about an attempted rape in the projects could become so popular."
In this awkward interview with Shira Lazar of CBS (is she really a journalist?), Dodson was asked what he's doing with the money he gets from iTunes.
"It's going to benefit me and my family getting a new house," he said.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. ? Last week at the Peach Jam I got a chance to interview musician Bruce Hornsby, whose son, Keith, is a 6-3 rising senior at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy committed to UNC-Asheville.

UNC-Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach recruited David Thompson to N.C. State, I was told by my Peach Jam roommate, NYC recruiting expert Tom Konchalski.

"Eddie Biedenbach is a legend of N.C. State basketball," Hornsby said.

Kate Hudson watched from the second row next to the Mets dugout at CitiField Friday night as A-Rod hit a historic two-run homer in the Yankees' 9-1 victory over the Mets.

She should show up to more games. I'm sure Yankee fans would appreciate it, and it can only help Alex get out of his slump. Oh by the way, Rodriguez passed non-steroid-using Yankee great Reggie Jackson and now has 564 career dingers, good for 11th all-time.

"You're so focused on playing the game and playing it right every day that I've never stopped to see [who he's passing]," Rodriguez told the Daily News. "But when you see Reggie - Reggie is such a huge name in our game and he's also Mr. October and a close friend - it's big."

Farrah died on Wednesday at 62 after what was, by all accounts, a tough and courageous battle with cancer.

If you missed Saturday Night Live last night while watching the World Series, the big news was that "Weekend Update" co-host Amy Poehler missed the show to give birth to her son, Archie. Poehler appeared on SNL up to last week, when she did this hilarious hip-hop take off on Sarah Palin. There was no sign of Poehler, Palin or Tina Fey last night, leaving this "Solid as Barack" skit as the highlight of the night.

Without Poehler, SNL had to rewrite and scrap certain aspects of the show. The result was that Coldplay appeared four times instead of the usual two, allowing lead singer Chris Martin, aka Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow, to endorse Barack Obama for an even larger portion of the show via the armband on his right arm. Check out these entertaining clips.

She says: 'I was hiding the reality of my life behind the unreal perfection of Marcia Brady.'No one suspected the fear that gnawed at me even as I lent my voice to the chorus of Bradys singing, "It's a Sunshine Day."'

A moment of silence for Paul Newman, one of the greatest actors ever, who died Friday at 83. It seems appropriate to honor Newman on a sports blog considering he starred in a number of the best sports-related films of all time, including "The Hustler," "Slap Shot," and "The Sting."

Among my favorites were the aforementioned, "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid," "The Verdict" and, of course, "Cool Hand Luke."

Rest in peace, Paul. Few men were as cool or as devoted to good causes as you.
