In 53 games this season, Byrdak is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 28 1/3 innings.
In addition, while the Mets would seemingly consider moving Daniel Murphy, offers from other teams have been much lower than it would take to trade him and a club source said they wouldn't trade Murphy for a reliever.

They have released the following statement:
In the most important hockey transaction in franchise history, Nashville Predators Chairman Tom Cigarran, President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile and CEO Jeff Cogen announced today that the team has matched the 14-year, $110 million offer sheet between the Philadelphia Flyers and defenseman Shea Weber, insuring that the Predators' captain will remain with the franchise for the next 14 years.

The Giants, who stayed home last year for camp due to the lockout, will be once again making the trek up the turnpike to the University of Albany to train for the next three weeks. It will be the 16th time the Blue has held camp in the state capital, which is the most of any location.
?Albany has been an ideal summer home for our football team,? says Giants President John Mara. ?In addition to the great facilities, we have felt for 15 years that starting our season in Albany gives us the best chance to succeed each season.?

It?s times like these you wish Santonio Holmes was a little more well-spoken, a little more careful with his language.
There was an important message he was trying to convey on that now-infamous NFL Podcast, and the delivery was completely wrong. But that doesn't mean that it is our job to forego common sense. With his words are taken at face value, Holmes is being made to look like he's asking the media to lie for the sake of the team. That's a lame stance.

Dreger adds "Nashville was working on a trade and its believed several deadlines passed before Flyers grew tired of waiting. Weber signed offer sheet."
He adds "I'm trying to go back to bed. More info coming in. Philly, NYR, Detroit and San Jose were big players in Weber trade scenarios."

Alderson said he does not intend to acquire a starting pitcher this month, since it is not a priority for the team at this time. However, he explained,?improving the bullpen remains his top priority, followed by looking for another right-handed bat.
In regards to relief pitchers, Alderson later told WFAN that it has to be the right guy who can be acquired mid-season and pitch well in New York mid season. "It's a crapshoot," he said. "We need to make sure it has the best chance of working."

"Right now I feel good. My arm feels good. All the symptoms are gone," Gee said. "That's the positive. It's been a long week for me... Once we found out everything was going to be okay, my thoughts went from very scared to very disappointed."
Gee told reporters that he has experienced occasional numbness in his pitching arm since 2010. The amount of numbness he had on July 8, however, was the worst he had ever felt. The numbness had gone up to his shoulder and doctors could not find a pulse in his arm.

Adam Rotter: This is a very interesting question and I think that the Rangers will be an improved team if they head into next season with basically the same lineup. In terms of players lost and replaced, I think it's pretty much a push with Jeff Halpern, Arron Asham, Taylor Pyatt and Michael Haley replacing John Mitchell, Brandon Prust and Ruslan Fedotenko.
A full season of Chris Kreider makes the Rangers better, faster and adds more scoring. Brad Richards should be better in his second season, you know what you will get from Ryan Callahan, and expect Derek Stepan to continue his progression into being a big-time center. They do need to add another scorer, whether it's a major move or not, and Marian Gaborik will miss the first few months. Rebound seasons from Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov would help fix the Rangers scoring woes.

He also adds that there would be no signing bonuses in the new five-year deals and that the salary would be the same every year.

Rodney Hampton carried the load for the Giants from 1990-1997. He is second all-time in rushing yards and third in rushing TDs. His yards per carry average was only 3.8, more of a testament to the Giants' poor offensive line than to his ability to move the ball forward.

In watching last night's game unfold, I couldn't help but think back to prior years - even last year while under Terry Collins - and think about how many times the Mets would appear to simply go through the motions in games like this and accept the game for what it was.
On a night when Johan Santana didn't have it, they could have easily folded the tents early and just look towards today's game. But, they didn't. Despite falling behind by five runs through the first five innings, the Mets continued to work counts, foul tough pitches off, and take quality at bats off of Travis Wood and the Cubs bullpen. As a fan, I firmly believed they had a chance to win that game - in years prior, I would've thought that game was over really early.

If you play in the NFL, and you go about your offseason business?that time in between New Year?s day (for non-playoff teams) and the start of preseason camp in late July?by actually taking significant amounts of time off from the game, chances are you?re not one of the truly elite players in the League. There are exceptions, of course, and plenty of guys spend their free time away from training centers, film rooms and athletic environments, choosing instead to hit up the party scene or lounge by the pool or whatever it is professional athletes do to relax these days.?There?s another portion of the NFL populace that, once the final whistle blows on game 16, spends every waking moment of every day tirelessly working to become a better player. Some of these guys are just wired that way, and it?s quite impressive.?Most Super Bowl winning teams, at least theoretically, should be composed largely of the latter category, and while it?s near impossible to calculate with any measure of accuracy a percentage of hard working players, I?d bet there are few players on the Giants roster who don?t qualify.
