Outfielder Rajai Davis isn't sure if he'll get a chance to play in the majors again past this weekend. At 38, he's unsure if the Mets, or any team, will want to sign him next season.

He's appeared in 27 games with the Mets this year and has had his moments, the biggest being his pinch-hit knock against the Dodgers which gave the Mets a 3-0 win two weeks ago.

Davis is hoping he's done enough to get another year in the majors in 2020.

As Jorge Alfaro stepped into the batter's box with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the sixth inning, Steven Matz knew he had to be careful with his pitches.

Alfaro's second-inning solo shot to left field gave Miami an early 1-0 lead, which doubled to 2-0 following an RBI single to center field by Migual Rojas. The Marlins threatened again when the cleanup hitter arrived at the plate after Matz began the sixth with three straight hits.

The Mets made a mound visit, but the southpaw's 1-1 pitch found too much plate, with the 89-mph slider at Alfaro's belt over the inner half and landing over the right-center field wall for a game-breaking grand slam.

The Mets (77-71, 3.0 GB in Wild Card race) wrap up their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (96-54, 19.5 GA in NL West) on Sunday night at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Notes

The Mets beat the Dodgers 3-0 on Saturday night thanks to a clutch hit by Rajai Davis. The 38-year-old came in to pinch hit in the eighth inning and delivered a three-run double to give the Mets their only runs of the day. Jacob deGrom threw 101 pitches over seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. Justin Wilson sealed the deal with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to get the save.

Rajai Davis left Citi Field a hero on Saturday. The Mets won 3-0 against the Dodgers thanks to Davis' clutch pinch-hit double in the eighth inning.

The moment was huge. The Mets hadn't had a base runner since the third inning and then they had the bases juiced in the eighth as Todd Frazier and Brandon Nimmo were hit by pitches and Amed Rosario was walked by Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias

Due up was Seth Lugo, but Mets skipper Mickey Callaway opted for Davis and his rip down the left field line turned that into a game-winning choice. Following the contest, Davis said he's hoping Callaway opts for similar decisions in the near future.

Mets keep 3.0 games back in Wild Card race thanks to Rajai Davis' clutch hit in 3-0 win vs. Dodgers. >> Box score

Five Takeaways from Saturday's game

1) Rajai Davis, the hero we all expected. In what went down as the Mets' final at-bat, the 38-year-old vet was called off the bench and delivered as a pinch hitter in the eighth. Both Todd Frazier and Brandon Nimmo were hit by pitches to start the rally, then Amed Rosario walked to load the bases. Due up was pitcher Seth Lugo, but skipper Mickey Callaway subbed in Davis, a righty hitter against lefty hurler Julio Urias. Battling through the plate appearance, fouling off two pitches, Davis pulled a double to left field, which cleared the bases, scoring all three base runners.

Five takeaways from Tuesday's game...

1) Steven Matz was allowed to go deep into the game this time around, as he continues to show success on the bump. He did allow a solo homer to 2B Jason Kipnis in the top of the second, but the run that came across in the fourth was unearned. Overall, the lefty went 6.1 innings, allowing that one earned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking two...

The Mets made a couple transactions before starting their series with the Indians on Tuesday night.

Rajai Davis is back with the big club, the team announced, as he was recalled with RHP Walker Lockett being sent back down to Triple-A Syracuse.

Davis played in four games with the Mets before he was sent down to Triple-A. He went 2-for-7 with a homer and three RBI during that span. In Triple-A, he owned a .287/.334/.410 slash line with eight homers and 28 RBIs over 84 games.

The Mets are adding even more outfield depth by signing former All-Star Matt Kemp to a minor-league deal, pending a physical. He'll initially report to Port St. Lucie.

Kemp was released by the Reds three weeks ago after Cincinnati acquired him from the Dodgers in December.

The 34-year-old, who was an All-Star just last season, was hitting .200 with one homer in 62 plate appearances with the Reds this season. Before he was released, he was placed on the injured list retroactive to April 22 with a broken rib.

The Mets have needed to dip into their Triple-A Syracuse roster recently to alleviate some of the injuries plaguing their core players. And those have been called up are making an immediate impact.

For today's comeback win, that recent call-up was Carlos Gomez

With two runners on and the Mets down one, Gomez found himself in a hole with a 1-2 count and two outs already on the board. But Wander Suero didn't hit his spot with a fastball, and Gomez put a quick swing on it to lift it over the fence for a three-run homer. And that was all she wrote as the Mets swept the four-game series...

Playing for seven different teams in his 14-year career, one would think Rajai Davis has seen it all in the baseball world. But debuting for his eighth team in the Mets on Wednesday night was definitely one he will never forget.

Davis has been playing for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets, and he woke up this morning in Allentown, PA like any other day. He arrived at Coca-Cola Park, and began warming up to face the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs -- the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. But while taking his BP, Davis was told that he was actually getting called up.

The 38-year-old thought it was a joke, but it turns out Brandon Nimmo was put on the IL after an MRI revealed inflammation has been causing his neck stiffness. And the news came less than two hours before first pitch at Citi Field. So Davis had to pack his things as fast as possible, and hightail it to Flushing to join the big club...
