Adam Clendening had two goals on 4 shots on goal, 2 shot attempts that were blocked and 1 shot that missed the net.
Clendening was a minus one, had a giveaway and played 15:02 with 13:47 coming at even strength.
Alain Vigneault said after the game that he was happy for Clendening but happier for the team overall.
He played 3:21 in the first, 6:31 in the second and 5:10 in the third.
When Clendening was on the ice at 5 on 5 the Rangers had 14 shot attempts for and 15 against. (Hockey Stats)
Clendening said of his goals that he just wanted to put the puck on net and create some havoc.
Asked about making an impact by scoring, Clendening said "It's definitely nice. The guys in here are always keeping me up in spirits and I know that I can help the team when I play and it's definitely nice to give it back to them."
Joe Micheletti & Dave Maloney talked about the "quick" game that Clendening plays and praised him for his handling of being in and out of the lineup and staying ready.
Ryan McDonagh said that Clendening's forte is his play with the puck.
Henrik Lundqvist said, "I think everyone is happy for him. He works really hard and he has been skating a lot on his own, that isn't easy mentally to stay ready. I feel that every time he stepped on the ice and played for us he is doing a good job. He deserves a lot of credit for how he is preparing himself and staying in shape and be ready. He plays a really big game and scored some big goals. I'm really happy for him."
Adam Rotter: Clendening showed last night what he can bring in both a positive and negative way. He isn't the greatest defensive defenseman but he can make some plays and get the puck out quickly. It's at the other end of the ice where Clendening can really make an impact, especially with his shot.
He is still the Rangers 7th defenseman so that would likely indicate that he comes out when Marc Staal returns, but the Rangers need to find ways to get Clendening in. You have to think that regular rest for Kevin Klein and/or Dan Girardi will keep them fresher and capable of playing at a higher level. If the Rangers decide to go that route then Clendening will get many more chances to make an impact.
