Last night the Rangers were called for 9 penalties, slashing (2), hooking, holding (2), cross checking, unsportsmanlike conduct, face-off violation and hi-sticking.
The Islanders were called for 9 penalties, 7 of which were slashing calls.
Alain Vigneault said before the game that the organization received an email earlier on Monday with a video explaining that they are looking to call more slashing penalties. (NYR Game Notes)
He added, "the faceoff situation is also going to be real stricter. Those are the rules and we know what they are. It's like with everything else, you have to adjust. They are definitely calling the slashing and want to take it out of the game." (NYR Game Notes)
Islanders coach Doug Weight said that neither team did particularly well of adapting to the net results.
