Artemi Panarin recorded his 400th point of his NHL career, Mika Zibanejad tallied three points, and the Rangers topped the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 on Friday night.
With the win, the Rangers have now won six of their last seven games, and they continue to creep back into the Wild Card picture.
With the game tied 1-1 in the second period, Panarin picked up an assist as he and Jesper Fast tried to run a give-and-go. Fast's pass back towards Panarin deflected into the net, and with Fast's goal, Panarin picked up the 400th point of his five-year career.
In the first two minutes of the third period, Panarin would score a goal of his own, his 31st of the season, giving him his 23rd multi-point game of the season. He is now tied for fourth in the NHL with 81 points on the season, and his 31 goals also rank among the league's leaders.
With six wins in seven games, and a 7-3 record in their last 10 games overall, the Rangers are now just four points behind the Islanders for the Eastern Conference's second Wild Card spot.
The Rangers have been thought of as sellers approaching Monday's trade deadline, with Chris Kreider one of the bigger names on the market, but this recent hot streak could very well change their course.
In fact, the Rangers have reportedly made it a 'priority' to try to re-sign Kreider to an extension before the deadline.
