The Hurricanes have announced that head coach Bill Peters has resigned and they will begin their search for a new head coach.
Peters exercised an opt-out in his contract to leave the Flames.
The Hurricanes join the Rangers, Stars and Flames as teams currently without a head coach.
Bob McKenzie reports that Rod Brind'Amour could be an internal candidate to replace Peters in Carolina.
Adam Rotter: Of the three other teams looking for a coach, Carolina is the only one that I think could really impact the Rangers search. Dallas is likely to go with experience and possibly Alain Vigneault, Peters seems like he is just shifting to Calgary and then the Hurricanes need to figure out what direction they want to go in.
The Hurricanes are also the biggest wild card on the market because of they have a new owner that seems to want to be hands on. It was reported that Carolina had to pause their GM search because the salary being offered was too low and that may be the case with who they decide to hire as head coach. They have the potential to impact the Rangers if Carolina wants to go with a college or first time coach again, but my guess would be that if a coach had to decide between the Rangers and Hurricanes they would choose the Rangers.
