Boo Nieves scored his first career NHL goal on Tuesday night in the first period against the Penguins.
Nieves has played in 13 games this season and has 1 goal and 4 assists, 3 of those assists came in his first game this season.
He is averaging 10:04 per game and has won 49.6% of faceoffs,
Alain Vigneault said that Nieves is a big body that skates well and is "improving" with every game and every minutes he is on the ice.
The Rangers post game Notes on Tuesday indicate that "Nieves has posted a plus-seven rating in 13 games this season, and he has not been on the ice for a goal against thus far in 2017-18 (130:58 of ice time)."
Nieves has been skating lately on a fourth line with Jesper Fast and Paul Carey that Vigneault used late in the third period.
Nieves played 1:21 of the final 1:36 on Friday.
Adam Rotter: Nieves is solid enough as the fourth line center and definitely looks like someone who, as the season goes on, can fill more of the role that Oscar Lindberg had last season. He has talent to make plays but his best attributes are his size, speed and skating and when he is using that trio and the fourth line is playing in the offensive zone they are usually having a pretty effective night.
