Alain Vigneault said last week that he is planning to get Brendan Smith back into the lineup after Smith has been out for the past five games.
Vigneault said on Monday that he was going with the same group of six defensemen for tomorrow's game against the Blackhawks and said that the reasoning is not only the winning streak but the overall play of the defense.
He said that against Edmonton the Rangers didn't allow a scoring chance in the final 25 minutes and said that the current group of six is playing "extremely well."
In Smith's spot, Steven Kampfer has been averaging 15:07 per game and when on the ice at 5 on 5 the Rangers have 45% of the shot attempts, 0 goals for, 2 against and 32 scoring chances for and 40 against. (Natural Stat Trick)
Smith said that sitting out during the winning streak is a "double-edged sword" and that he thinks he is capable of helping the team but is happy that the team is winning. (NY Post)
