It was reported earlier this week that Yashin was talking with an NHL team.
James Mirtle says that Evgeni Nabokov will report to the Islanders training camp in hopes of a trade.
At Newsday, Katie Strang writes that after a quiet free agent period, now is the time for Garth Snow to acquire a defenseman to play with Mark Streit on the Islanders top pairing.
She says that adding a player to make the Islanders better can also help as they push their way towards the salary floor.
The referendum to vote on the plans for a new arena for the Islanders is set for August 1.
More on this and the Isles at Islanders Point Blank.
Earlier in the week, 77% of readers said that they didn't want the Islanders to move.
It's unlikely that the Islanders will be able to pull off a trade that will land a player that will make a dramatic difference in voter turnout for the vote on August 1. That doesn't mean that they can't get a nice player, but it certainly seems like a long shot that they will land the type of player who will bring a lot of media attention to the team and accelerate their rebuilding process and bring casual fans to the voting booth.
