6:49PM: Shanahan is expected to leave the NHL and join the Leafs immediately. (The Star)
6:26PM: Darren Dreger said on TSN Drive, "the sense I was given was that it will be Toronto or he will stay with the NHL office."
6:05PM: Kypreos said on Connected: "There seems to be a bit of delay and some people suggest that Shanahan is just doing is due diligence and not just for him and his family. He is settled nicely in NYC. Perhaps he takes a step back and weighs all of his options. I don't put much stock into the NY Ranger angle but I do believe that there are a lot of people, including Shanahan, with a curiosity of where Glen Sather's future is. Is he going to leave, will he step back, relinquish some of the power he has in NY. I wouldn't put it past Shanahan to at least inquire if there is a possibility. Does he sign with Toronto to find out two months later that Sather is retiring? I think he just wants to make sure that the Leafs are his best option and I have no doubt that he will end up with the Toronto Maple Leafs."
5:23PM: Former Ranger Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet sent out this tweet "Could #Rangers situation regarding Sather's future be delaying Shanahan's decision to accept #Leafs offer?"
Shanahan is reportedly the top choice of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment President Tim Leiweke to assume the role of President of Hockey Operations with the Maple Leafs.
While reports suggested that Glen Sather may be stepping aside this year, Sather himself refuted that and said that he isn't planning to retire this year.

[6:08PM] Adam Rotter: Now that it's understood what Kypreos was talking about, that Shanahan may be delaying his decision on Toronto to see if he can stay in NY to work with the Rangers, we can better understand that this is just some dot connecting because some believe Shanahan doesn't want to leave New York but also wants to get out of the league office. My feeling has always been that Jeff Gorton will be the next GM of the Rangers, with Glen Sather staying on as President, and when Sather wants to fully retire, the role of President will go to Mark Messier or possibly Wayne Gretzky.
