Hagelin signed a four-year deal worth $16 million over the summer.
Glen Sather told Hagelin that it was a "sad day" when he was traded.
Hagelin said that he thought he might sign a one-year deal with the Rangers and then work on something long-term.
Adam Rotter: The Rangers miss Hagelin but there was no way they could keep him or afford to pay him $4 million per season. He was a great fit with the Rangers since the day he was called up and worked to earn that new contract. He was one of the most popular Rangers during this recent run of success and should get a nice/well deserved ovation and photo/video tribute during the game.
