After being moved from the top line to the fourth line on Tuesday, David Desharnais had the primary assist on two goals .
Desharnais was named the third star of the game and Paul Carey, who scored the two goals from Desharnais, said that "Davey is a great player, sees the ice really well. He makes everyone around him a better player. He wins draws and you just gotta keep your puck on the ice when you are playing with him." (MSG)
Mika Zibanejad said on MSG after the game that he likes Desharnais' game, he is a smart player and someone that he hated to play against.
Alain Vigneault said that the trio of Desharnais, Carey and Jimmy Vesey played well, capitalized on some opportunities and were able to contribute. (MSG)
Dave Maloney said on MSG that when he was at practice on Monday he was wondering why Desharnais was in the lineup in place of Boo Nieves, but said after the game on Tuesday that "the coach knows what he is doing."
Larry Brooks wrote on Wednesday, "everyone once in a while you've just got to tip your cap to Alain Vigneault, who probably hasn't just stumbled into 633 victories behind an NHL bench. (NY Post)
Adam Rotter: I wasn't sure that taking out Boo Nieves and putting Desharnais on the fourth line was a great idea, but it worked for the Rangers on Tuesday and will hopefully work for them again. Desharnais deserved to stay in the lineup after how he played while Zibanejad was out and that spot on the fourth line is really the only possible option. The Rangers could move JT Miller back to wing and then sit someone like Paul Carey, but Carey has been playing well too.
