After being picked up on waivers by the Rangers in November, Matt Puempel had 6 goals and 3 assists in 27 games and averaged 10:10 per game.
Puempel played 10 games in December, 3 in January, 4 in February, 5 in March and 2 in April.
He missed a total of 11 games this past season with two different concussion related injuries.
Puempel is an RFA, arbitration eligible and will have a qualifying offer of $945,000.
Puempel can also be re-signed and exposed in the expansion draft.
Adam Rotter: I could see Puempel returning as a depth/13th forward for the Rangers, but he probably won't get a qualifying offer from the Rangers. If he were to return it would be at much less than the $945,000 he likely would accept. As a former first round pick and someone who has scoring ability, he's not a bad guy to keep around but it's likely that if he gets to be a UFA, which he would if he isn't qualified, then I can see him landing on another team where he might have more of an opportunity to play.
