Adam Rotter: Does it make sense to look at keeping Eric Staal on a short-term deal if the Rangers trade Derek Stepan? For the right price it might, but nothing long-term and nothing over $5 million. Staal has size and can fill some of the two-way play that the Rangers would lose with Stepan, but only at the right price. If they do go down a route like this, as long as there is a no-move clause attached, he could be unprotected heading into the expansion draft next summer.
