9AM: Filip Forsberg has a hearing with the Department of Player Safety
The NHL's Department of Player safety has announced that Filip Forsberg will have a hearing today for interference on Jimmy Vesey.
Vesey took an elbow to the head from Forsberg last night that appeared to also be interference.
Vesey returned to play a shift or two after initially going to the Rangers locker room but then returned to the locker room with medical trainer Jim Ramsay.
After the game, Forsberg spoke about the hit and said "I just saw him on the ice after, I hope nothing happened to him. It was unfortunate that he got hurt, I think he kept playing so hopefully nothing too bad." (NSH)
Forsberg was not penalized on the play.
The Nashville broadcast described the play as, "Forsberg backed into him, Vesey had his head down as he got rid of the puck. He didn't have his head up and it's definitely not a malicious hit by any means."
They added, "you could see Fil turning his body, he saw that play develop, to try and eliminate that high contact and get his hips and midsection more into the hit. Vesey was bent forward, they are trying to clean up the blood right now, but Filip Forsberg doing his best to avoid that situation. You see him backing in, he sees this developing and then they just skate right into each other. It's an unfortunate hit but that is why you gotta keep your head up after you make that pass, you can't admire your pass and it's a tough one."
