Former Rangers associate coach Scott Arniel has joined the Washington Capitals as an assistant coach to Todd Reirden.
Arniel was with the Rangers for the past five seasons as part of Vigneault's staff.
Adam Rotter: Arniel wasn't out of a job long and I think that speaks to how well regarded he is around the league. Arniel, like almost every assistant coach, was blamed immensely when the PP struggled or the forwards made mistakes. He was probably in a position after 2015 or 2016 to get a second crack at being a head coach in the NHL but instead he takes on another assistant role in the Metro division. He was Alain Vigneault's top guy and I think he deserves some credit for some of the success the Rangers had in his time and some of the players that developed, but his time with the Rangers is over and he gets to join the defending Stanley Cup champions.
