When asked after the draft to describe his game, Rangers first round pick Lias Andersson said that he is a two-way center that loves to "change games and score big goals." (NHL Transcript)
He added, "I want to be a leader. So, yeah, I'll say I'm a leader."
Andersson said that he likes to pattern his game after guys like Jonathon Toews, Claude Giroux and said that he thinks he can play "a little bit tough and score big goals."
On Giroux and Toews, Andersson said "I think they're game changers. And Toews is a big winner. He's won everything, and I want to win everything, too."
Andersson said that he wants to be a "full package" type of player and that his work ethic might be his best asset, adding "if you want to be successful, you have to play hard and tough, in my opinion."
Adam Rotter: He may not project out to be a scorer on the level like Giroux, but he seems to possess the same kind of qualities and drive that make Jonathon Toews the player that he is. I'm not saying he will be Toews, but he seems to want to be someone who is used in all situations and is on the ice at the end of the game either protecting a lead or trying to tie the game. It's very possible that he starts his career with the Rangers in a bottom six/PK type of role before hopefully adding offense and turning into a top-six center.
